Microtech/Benchmade rummors?

Lets not generalize too much here. OTF MTs may have some issues here and there but their side openers are world class! LUDT, Socom,... some of the most sought after auto knives!

The biggest Microtech distributor out there dropped them quite awhile ago. Quality and customer service has really gone downhill.

What distributor would that be? What quality issues would those be specifically?

If you have an issue with a knife, it takes what most would consider an unreasonable amount of time to get a hold of someone on the phone, many have reported that emails largely go unanswered, etc. Specifically. Browse the forums search for "Microtech Customer Service" and you will find some very unhappy customers. Admittedly, not all requests are reasonable, but it shouldn't take weeks to get someone to reply to email.

Don't you live in Canada? We'd be just as well off discussing shipping you some black tar heroin.

Does it really matter? Where theres a will theres a way. I have plenty of "naughty" things in Canada. I live 10 clicks away form the boarder. Why is it that an imaginairy line devides freedom with tyrany. While I'm at it, anybody interested in sponsoring me for a green card I don't care if I have to work at Target and make 27 a year, at least I'll be free and give my future kids better opportunities.

I may not be able to get it from the said distributors but I know who the major distributors in the U.S. are, and if they think of MT as being shaddy then I'll take their word for it. A large dealer that comes to mind would be BladeHQ?

Microtech stopped making knives for awhile and switched to guns ... ARs' and Bullpups'.

That didn't work out to well with a bad economy.

They went back to making runs of knives to keep the business going.

I'll bet they lost their edge and probably a few skilled employees.

I'm sure there will be a curve to get back to where they were 10 years ago ... if ever.

Hope they do because they make some cool stuff.

hmm. the gold handeled microtech socom elite looks an awefull lot like the browning Ice storm, by mcusta.

it might be the other way round, though i doubt it as mcusta has been using that blade shape since there conception.

Microtech does have manual folders and fixed blades, you know. Those are legal and freely sold and distributed in Canada, so there is value in knowing this sort of information.

That is true, I missed the most obvious. :D

There may be some restrictions based on blade length though, I don't live there or know the laws but it would follow suit. The Socom Elite has a 4" blade and that gets pele arrested in some areas if carried and caught.

There are no blade length restrictions of any kind on knives in Canada. I know someone who regularly walks around downtown Vancouver, BC with a Spyderco Warrior strapped to his leg. Why? Who the hell knows. All I know is that he's courteous to the police and has no record so they don't bother him about it.

Automatics are illegal, however.

My understanding is that Mr Lightfoot is a Canadian national. I have a manual LCC from the period where Microtech actually won the Blade manufacturer
of the year award. It is beautifully designed and crafted and I understand they are quite valuable on the secondary market, not that I would ever be
interested in selling it. It's sad to see a once-great company in full-blown decline.

After years of hearing the stories of MT burning the likes of Lightfoot , Brend , Terzoula (just to name a few) and all the customer service complaints...i don't understand why anyone would overlook their ethics and continue to support such a company.

Don't forget Mike Turber, designer of the Tachyon and creator of Bladeforums.

I can vouch for the Infidel, I got a mini and it has been rock solid, I love it! I do also have a Microtech utx-70 and have actually had no issues with it other than it is damn near too small and the switch is a bit stiff which, combined with its diminutive size combines for one hard to open knife (it makes the perfect letter opener though on my desk) I am kind of affraid to use it so it doesn't wear out, I have heard horror stories about people not getting good customer service and that Microtech requires proof of military or police service (I am a neither) to get your knife sent in. This forum is great, cheers!

I am done with microtech, only because i bought a daytona for a present for a police friend of mine, & when i got it,it fired faster closed than open, was very dull, & had lots of blade play. after all the praise ive heard about them being the best in front openers,i sold the piece of crap & was very disappointed. maybe it was a bad one,but for that kind of money it shouldnt be.it was so dull, it couldnt cut paper without tearing it.i have a 12.00 rough rider that can cut rings around it...
