I am looking to purchase a Microtech Ultratech. This would be my very first Microtech.

However I have heard many rumors of their customer service and quality control not being at it's fullest lately. Are any of these rumors true? Has anyone ever had a bad experience with their CS? I really want a Microtech but I am pretty weary of buying one with all these rumors going on.

I broke the spring on LUDT. I wrote them several letters. Response to them, I never got it. I am aware of several similar cases with my friends. It seems that they do not communicate with their customers.

Remember Federal law restricts shipping autos over state lines. Sending a Microtech in for repair requires a cooperating dealer who can receive it back, and get it to you.

As for Microtech themselves, yes, they have a terrible reputation for customer service over the years. I gave up even thinking about them.

I do. I have a daytona that was not retracting consistently. The blade would bounce back and come off the track every couple of cycles.

I went on microtechs website and filled out the form to get an RA number. They emailed me back in a day or so with a number and instructions.

If you are a civilian they will send the knife back to the dealer you purchased the knife from and then the dealer can return the knife to you. If you don't know who your dealer is, Microtech will help you find one that can facilitate the transaction

My knife was gone for two weeks and came back 100% fixed. It was not the ordeal I feared. I did have to contact my selling dealer and paid for return shipping.

I will add that while my knife came back quickly and was repaired fully, they never once answered their phone or responded to any emails. The only correspondence I had was when I requested an RA number.

While they ignored my calls / emails, they fixed my knife in a timely manner, sharpened it and made sure it got back into my hands

Good luck
Rob

Well, after hearing your responses. I guess I will stay away from them. Does anyone know of a good alternative otf knife?

That's the problem. You can Benchmade, they have the Infidel... but, same rules apply regarding shipping the knives.

My response was fairly positive. My knife was fixed in two weeks and back in my hands. What part of my post scared you away from Microtech? No auto manufacturer will send you your knife back directly.

Yeah Microtech sucks in the communication department, but if you have a problem you can easily get an RA number from them and get your knife fixed.

Though they didn't hold my hand or answer my phone calls, they did fix the knife and sent it back in brand new condition and sharp as all can be.

If you want a great otf, you are kinda stuck with Microtech.

I do have a benchmade infidel as well. I have nothing negative to say about it.
That knife also went in for repair (perceived issues, not real ones). Though their communication was a bit better (a lot better) the end result was the same. They had to ship my knife to a dealer who then returned it to me.

You won't regret a Microtech. I have 3. Two of them are 2010 models and have worked flawlessly from day one. My daytona was from 2008 or 2009. It works great now.

Microtechs are fine knives, but the one thing you've got to remember is that OTFs have a lot of moving parts and the more moving parts, the more that can go wrong.

MT OTFs are very sensitive to any adjustment. I removed a pocket clip and tightened the glass breaker a little too far in. The next time I retracted it, the blade bounced back instead of staying in... oops

Microtech's customer service is legendary for being uncommunicative. I remember a few years ago people on the forums thought they went out of business because not one single person had heard from them in months.

Why do you need an OTF?

I've had terrible experience with MT's customer service of the MSAR rifles btw... had two and neither worked right and MT couldn't get them to run properly so I cut my losses and sold them.
