Sent in me S/F for lock rock repair. As these are not fitted with steel inserts like the socom delta, doc, etc, I wondered what they would do to fix it. (New liner lock/blade). Well it was neither, after 14 weeks I got it back and the lock rock was fixed....until the clear tape strip wrapped around the thumb stud when I wiped the blade with alcohol. Smh hurts my heart because I buy a lot of microtechs, but I was told the repair department sucks.

Hi and welcome...

I guess I don't understand what happened? Are you saying they used Scotch tape to fix a rock lock problem, and sent it back?

They fixed my Mini Matrix with a backspacer and lockup issue in 7 weeks, even though I was not the original purchaser, and they have offered to send me spare parts (previously unheard of) for a fee and also to service older models that haven't been in production since 2004. I've had no complaints with their current CS so far, can you post a picture of your knife showing the issue and how they fixed it?

Yea they wrapped a super thin strip of clear tape around one thumb stud. I always clean my blades with alcohol and when I did it started to unravel. I was soo pissed because I love this knife, and then for me to spend 310.00 and be insulted.

They didn't fix it, whoever got the repair order jerked me around. I have some heat shrink around the studs now to fix the problem, but it's temporary

So if I'm understanding right, microtech fixed blade play by putting tape/ plastic on the thumb stud/ blade stop?

Any picture proof?

I've heard here say there cs was below par.
But that would sincerely make me never to but another microtech again.
Their proprietary screwed are bad enough.

So, not ever handling a Microtech, I guess I am still confused... how does putting tape, or anything, around a thumb stud stop lock rock? I mean, you're talking major lock rock whilst blade is deployed, right? Again, I don't really know how their autos work.

Unfortunately no way to prove it because the tape was so thin I virtually disintegrated. But yes they did, even sent back a repair sheet saying it had been cleaned, timed, and sharpened. So I took some heat shrink (wire insulator and put it around the studs. Thing is, this knife is perfect aside from the lock problem. The angle on the blade tang is bad I think because it had 90% lock up brand new.

The thumb stud is the blade stop like a strider. Strider will put a slightly larger stud to fix their lock rock

This sets the lockup earlier because the thumb studs act as the blade stop pins.

I honestly doubt that anyone, even Microtech, would fix lock rock with tape.

Did you try to return the knife to the dealer you purchased it from if the lockup was that bad brand new?

Trust me dude I have no reason to lie, microtech is my favorite production knife company. I own over ten thousand dollars worth of their knives dating back to Vero beach. I was shocked and disappointed to say the least.

Also didn't think the lock up would be an issue because I have two socom elites that were the same percentage and have not moved and one is from 1998

If they actually did fix the lock rock with tape you should send a complaint and demand that your knife be put ahead of current repair jobs because that is a completely unacceptable repair, especially for the wait time.

Yea my feelings was a bit hurt being a knife nut and a microtech fan. And to be honest this is the only knife out of all that I had a fail/ issue with. They actually build a fantastic knife

Something seems pretty screwey with this - too bad. I have had 2 repairs done by M/T and both were perfect. It took about 6 weeks, but the quality of the repair was exceptional. I'd suggest calling and talking to the lady that handles the customer service. When I was working with them she was very helpful.

Yes there are two ladies, Laurel is who gave me my RA# and who I talked to on the phone. I guess I will try again after the holidays. If no luck there I will try to catch Tony at bladeshow...fortunately I live in Atlanta

My Socom Delta has a bit of lock rock when I don't flip out out with force. It's there any reasonably way for be to fix it myself?

Not permanently that I know of, but those have the replaceable lock bar insert. Those are an easy fix so I am told.

That isn't right and you should be pissed. Email Laurel and explain the situation. Always a good idea to document this stuff with pictures of the "fix". This is one of the biggest drawbacks to poorly done frame lock folders, and there are a lot of companies that drop the ball in the geometry and fitment department when designing them and it shouldn't be that way for what they sell for.
