Microtech responds to Natrix.

Mr. Marfione now makes and sells the framelock Matrix R clear of the KAI claim.

Mr. Igarashi now markets the Natrix.

Who won?

What I didn't understand about the whole thing was where the sub frame dispute fit into Microtech ripping off the 0777? Was it a related or seperate issue?

It's a completely separate issue. That's part of what makes the response so ridiculous.

If KAI made a ZT OTF, they would destroy Microtech.

I don't know if that would be the case. Microtech has a huge following and almost a cult status in the automatic knife world. I see people who know absolutely nothing about knives toting Microtechs because of how "badass" they think the knife appears. Maybe in our niche community ZT would be hailed above Microtech but generally speaking Microtech would probably still out-sell ZT in the OTF market.

Have you not seen the contempt for MT all over this forum? Also, have you not seen how many ZTs are out in the wild? The answer is clear....

Even if it is true, justification on the basis that 'two wrongs make a right', especially when the retaliatory wrong was far beyond the claimed initial wrong? Yeah. Screw MT.

Such a crybaby. In a letter responding to the Natrix, he cries like a putz about the sub-frame lock.

His story sounds like fiction, and it of course does not justify stealing and continuing to make ZT's design. The people who are spouting the "MT got it out faster and didn't take crap from ZT" are not only fools for believing a load of crap, but fools for blindly supporting theft.

I only needed my one experience owning an MT UT to dissuade me from supporting them ever again, but this should be a nail in the coffin for anyone with a shred of decency.

Of course Mr Marfione got the Matrix out faster than KAI got the 777 did, all the hard work was already done...

Does anyone know if MT has licensed the Star Wars imagery they use on their Star Wars autos? It would be really interesting to see how far they take IP theft.

I read that whole thing and all I took from it is that at least someone at KAI wants to make an OTF. We should encourage this. A ZT OTF. I'm game.
You and me both! Imagine an entire line of OTFs... no, nevermind. My bank account just slapped me in the head.

If KAI made a ZT OTF, they would destroy Microtech.
So why haven't they? They already tried, and failed.

Personally, I would love to see ZT make an OTF with Elmax or better steel, that is fully ambidextrous (so I can actually use it), and I would be all over it. Until then, my UTX-85 astounds me as to the quality that is in this thing. Their customer service... not so much. Benchmade's OTF offering was a good value when they had the OTFs under the HK brand. Apparently they have done some modifications to the internals of the Turmoil (now the 4600 Phaeton) to tighten it up, so hopefully what they did will justify the huge price increase now that they have moved to Benchmade's Black Class.

Yeah, the tacti-cool crowd will probably always follow Microtech even though they will probably never use their knife for tactical use, and wouldn't actually know what to do if they ended up in that situation, but MT does make more normal looking OTFs as well (single edge, drop point Ultratech, UTX-85, UTX-70) that can actually look pretty darn classy. If ZT came out with something that could compete with MT's UTX-85 in size, looks, and quality, I would possibly sell/trade mine to get a ZT. Then I could have a great OTF and great customer service!

Disney is very protective of their property almost to the extreme. If the use is licensed there would be an indication of such on the item or packaging. Anyone know somebody with Disney? :D

The Imperial Cogs have some differences but the Mandalorian symbol on the Boba Fett OTF is exact.

I can tell you none of the logos on the knifes are direct copies of what the SW logos actually are. They are all modified slightly in way only legitimate star wars nerds would recognize.

For example look at the Jedi Knife logo. The Jedi Logo he is trying to use is supposed to have a star on it.

I personally will continue to buy products from both companies when they make something I like. My view is its their fight to work out. Its hard for me to defend kai over the sub frame lock as people were doing it before they did it. But they patented it in the usa and the maker who was doing it the most does not live in the usa and is now a collaborator with kai so thats all I need to know. Microtech imho had no right to get mad at the otf. Even if parts could be swapped from it to a scarab. It was a proto and the scarab mech is based on yet another mikov product from many years past. Imho benchmade has taken a bigger chunk out of tonys business than kai ever did. The whole thing is an interesting story. But its a story that most of us dont know the whole of. And while i think mt has very little ground to stand on when talking about IP i still like some of their products. And i am not going to let the drama effect my purchasing habits.

Look at the Mandalorian logo on the Boba Fett UT. It's identical.

Not something I would say often, as I'm not a fan of Disney. But in this case, I hope that the Big D rakes Marfony over the coals and then throws him in the fire. :D
