I just saw this Microtech on one of the online knife stores and was excited to order it but all sold out. Disappointed. I have a couple of their ram-locs and really like them. I also have a couple Socom auto's and love the design. They were priced at $321.75. IMG_5798_1200x.jpeg20240129_114345.jpg

That lock on that model looks like a perfect fit.

Saw the “prototype” of these for like
$2,500 LMAO 🤣 Personally think it looks unfinished. Like they forced a new lock into an already ok design.

I actually like the choil, it won't be as good as a spyderco military choils though, looking at the plunge line. I also think they should keep the awesome study liner lock the socom is known for. Do love the texturing of the aluminum vs the grip tape.

I got an amphibian to try out the ram-lock and an axis style lock that isn't benchmade. I've seen some YouTube videos on spine whacking (not that I do that to my knives) that make me suspicious.

Many will look at this just because its a tip up version, with a deep carry clip. Im not a fan of deep carry, and pretty neutral on the tip up vs tip down carry debate. The steel clip on the liner lock is the sturdies I have felt. This will be a no from me.

I have an amphibian with the ram-lock.I saw a certain youtuber bad mouthing the lock and microtech's heat treat before I purchased mine.

I have spine whacked mine and the lock has never failed once.Sure it sticks some but I know it won't close of me during use.

IMO,My Spartan Pallas is way worse.I can literally close mine like a slip joint and it definitely won't pass a spine whack.

The concerns over the choil are valid, if subjective. It's large. I don't love it aesthetically, but it's needed to accommodate the lock mechanism. In practice, it provides a comfortable choke-up spot in a number of grips. I also like that it's a gentle transition to the sharpened edge, reducing the tendency some choils have to become snag-points. It will never be better than the OG Socom for me, and I definitely understand that the choil is a turnoff for many.. but it's a pretty d@mn cool knife!

I'm a big fan of the Socom design and have had many. Even though I don't love the choil, I might try to get one of these because they finally reduced the stock thickness. It's apparently about .132" thick vs. .190" on the Socom Elite. If it's ground thinly at the edge, it might finally give the LUDT a run for its money when it comes to slicing performance.
