I love OTF's. I recently spent about $200 on a Microtech UTX-70 expecting an exceptional knife. The knife seemed great until it broke. The button to extend /retract the blade floats up and down and does not control the blade. I wonder if all Microtech's are as cheaply made. I bought it from BladHQ.com. On monday, I'll find out what their customer service can do. Anyone else had problems with Microtech otf's?

Did you try resetting the blade?

Carefully pull it out all the way, until it locks into place. Now try retracting/firing it...

Yes... what gzb said. Out the front mechanisms are extremely simple and that should fix the problem.
I can definitely appreciate your disappointment when spending that much on a knife, but there is always a solution. Also, the dealer you buy the knife from can always send it back for repairs.

Best of luck and tell us how it turned out.

Yes I know how to reseat the blade of an otf knife. I can still pull the blade out to a locked position. The switch still just floats up and down. If you search for broken UTX 70 on youtube there are a couple of videos with the same problem as mine. This is not my first otf. It is however the most expensive, and cheaply built otf I've bought. I've had it for about three weeks. I contacted BladeHQ.com about it. Hopefully they can get me a refund. My taiwan Lightning is a way better knife. I've had it for a long time, fired it thousands of times, never fails. It was also about $150 less than the microtech.

SURE, the Lightning is a better knife! :jerkit:
Especially if you have no idea what a good knife is.
BTW-you paid about $30 too much for yours.

I thought I knew what a good knife was...that's why I bought a microtech. I would say it's just a defect, but I've seen/heard of other utx70's that broke in the same way.

We'll get you taken care of- nothing to worry about on that end. I'll reply to your email this evening.

Be nice, Bill. Educate him, don't belittle him.

There was a problem with a recent run of the UTX-70 knives. One of the parts wasn't manufactured properly and we've had numerous warranty issues. Microtech has assured us that this problem has been remedied in recent runs. And, to Microtech's credit, their warranty service has been excellent (in our experience with them).

Good to see a merchant step up like this. And...good to see a merchant who participates on and helps to support Bladeforums.

BTW I highly recommend buying from BladeHQ.com. Their customer service has been exceptional. Even after having this issue with my microtech, I will be a repeat customer.

My next purchase will be from BladeHQ, Really awesome of you guys to come on here and let a customer know what's up and that you have their back!!!

I recommend bladehq as well, great people and fast shipping. I purchased my Microtech Socom Elite from them not too long ago and was a very happy camper

I had the same problem and Bladehq won't/can't help.... I live in a banned state but am exempt they said they couldn't help anyway... they changed their policy three weeks ago. No luck reaching out to microtech I have had no response.

lil help...?

robertesq1, did you get it from us? If so, shoot me an email (cam (at) bladehq.com). I don't like to be critical of companies, but Microtech recently went through some... reorganization. It has not beeen easy to deal with them.
