I came across this photo. I will have to say that Microtech hasn't done a whole lot for me since the LCC. Until now. I love the look of this knife.

What do you guys think?

I think Microtech is finally jumping on the leaf shaped bandwagon made famous by Bob Lum's modern rendition of the Chinese Shi Lin folder.

I too love the look of that knife. Can I ask where you saw the photo and did it have any details as to how much it might cost and when it will be available?

Came across it on another forum. No mention of proce or availability.

Maybe someone else here has more info?

Here is another pic:

The only models made to date are the hand ground prototypes. Microtech is currently moving its operation from FL to PA and it looks like the release of this model has been postponed. No news lately about its release. :grumpy:

I just found out that a custom version made by Reese Weiland is available. Jonny Liao is the designer and takes the orders for them. He sells them
exclusively and takes the orders. I have no idea how much or how long a wait there is. I emailed Jonny to get more information.

Here is a pic of the custom version:

I don't think the original run from Reese Weiland is available anymore. I believe MT is the only one that is making these now.

Is the MT whaleshark an assisted opener? That protrusion/guard looks alot like the thing on a kershaw assisted opener that you push to make the blade pop open.

yeeowtch. tha's a good-lookin' knife. looks EXPENSIVE too. oh well, another one to add to the list... if MT mass produces it the way it looks in those pic (& i believe that they are more then capable enough), it would be a home run hit.

the one piece is something MT is coming out with

a small batch if fixed blades

Any specs to go with those pics?

The only spec I've seen is a blade length of 3.8"

I heard from Mr. Liao. He says he does have some of the customs available, but none with the flipper.
:(

I'm sorry, but that fixed blade is a complete and utter bite of a Chris Reeve one piece. It's a cross between an Ayoob MOD and a Chris Reeve one piece.

many makers do the one piece...jimmy lile, parish, rj martin, jack crain...as do many prodo houses...buck, aitor etc etc...

in fact, I think the one-piece was first made popular by Rambo, so...credit goes to jimmy lile...

I think you are referring to hollow handle "survival" knives. Chris Reeve originated the hollow handle knife milled from a solid bar of steel.

CRK may very well have helped produce those, I don't know. Look at the pocket clips on a lot of Microtechs and compare them to the Sebenza clips.

that is the one MT i would buy, most of thier line is a bit agressive for me,
i like the name too. :D
