Mid-priced watches

Great!
I'd expect to wear it about half the time, maybe more, just wanted to make sure I could let it sit for a day.

Is it basically tastes between the 007 and monster? Sounds like the monster's bracelet is better than the basic bracelet on the 007 but I could either select the 007 with a $100 more bracelet, or buy an "oyster"? which would wind up cheaper and I'd have two bracelets, maybe I'm missing something.

of those 2 i would get an orange monster & i have a older seiko diver ('79) which has been a great watch, going on 30 yrs old and never had the back off (am thinking of sending it off to yao for some mods and a cleaning) but anyway i really like the looks of the orange monsters and they are also great watches, a lot of folks like the ones with a band but i would have to have the one with the bracelet, no doubt.

I don't intend to go with the orange, it's a bit too flashy for everyday wear, for me at least.
I'm with you on the bracelet though!

BOTH my incoming watches came today!!!!

This Pepsi bezel Seiko with the Oyster band.

and my Marathon SAR like this only on the heavy steel bracelet

The SAR is freaking gorgeous -- it looks like it was carved out of a solid steel block.

From my understanding Seiko designed the 20 minute demarcation on this one for decompression stops when diving.

For anyone interested, here's a better shot of my current watch- felt like doing something other than heat/mass transfer homework for a little bit.
Crystal chip & brassing are both visible.

it's a great buy as it has the excellent Valjoux 7750 movement in it.

I believe you mean the ETA 2824. That's what the review says it has and that's what the movement looks like in the picture.

The 7750 is a chronograph movement, although sometimes the chrono part is left off (as in Panerai autos). Even if that is the case the second hand is at 9 rather than the center.

I know the 2824 is highly regarded but I'm not fond of them. I've owned a Breitling and a Ulysse Nardin with that movement and neither ever had the power reserve I thought they should. Maybe it's just me, but I've never had a PR issue with any other movement.

There is also a chronograph model that does for sure use the the 7750 -- I thought they were both supposed to have the 7750 only this one non chrono -- perhaps it's only the chronograph? That would make sense.

I've had a few 2824-2's in different pieces though and they've been fine watches. I know the 2824-2 does have to be worn a lot to keep the reserve up. Although some do rate it as low as a 38 hour reserve.

But maybe you just don't move around enough Blackhills?:D

Congrats on the new incoming watches . Can't beat a Seiko for the money and I still want to pick up the SAR. I have the 'Pepsi' bezel SKX009 and a T-SAR with the tritium tubes.

those marathons are sure a good looking watch, and a damned good one too...........

imho the best looking diver style watch around for less than $1500.

I think it's hard to go wrong with any version of the Seiko SKX007. I wear mine 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

That sweet Seiko Lume that every other watch wishes it had......

Get yourself one one.... wear the heck out of it.... and enjoy.

Still can't make up my mind between the monster and 007 models.. nor can the people I've asked which they like better, i've gotten fairly strong preferences for both from different people.
Why do i get the feeling I'm going to wind up with both within a year or so anyway..

I would like a TSAR as well -- but I want a sterile one and they haven't been around in two years :grumpy:

Hell you could probably buy them both NOW for less than $350ish :D Besides you need an orange one anyways

If you don't mind grey market or units w/o boxes etc -- fleabay has lotsa deals. My 009 was only $170 delivered and it is perfect.:p

Yup, $400 for both if I go for the cheaper bracelet on the 007 from chronograph.com, I'm still wondering how much better that expensive bracelet could be that it's a $100 premium when someone said that an oyster costs around $50.

I really don't feel like I'd wear the orange enough to justify it- I like silver, black, and blue watch faces.

Also I see others have mentioned some forums and keeping an eye on their sales forums. I am a member of www.watchuseek.com and I picked up my 009 on the sales forum there for $135 used with only a few minor scuffs on the clasp from the previous owner. Also I snagged my SKX779, Black Monster, for $105 for just the head since I had some extra zulus laying around which I planned on using anyway. With the watch forums you are dealing with people who collect them, which means they are going to be pretty well taken care of. So if you can score some really good deals then getting both the 007 and Monster should be no problem and it won't kill the wallet either ;).

XD45, good points- I'm partially just afraid of becoming a member of a watch forum, I know what both this & my mazda forum have cost me!
