Hey, I'm getting into this driving to different gatherings. I'd drive out to the midwest for one!
 
Me and charlieridge were planning one in the ozarks for in the fall possibly at roaring river state park. I would totally be down for one in the summer too. There are lots of places in Missouri to go, Bell mountain wilderness, mark twain national forrest, elephant rocks meramec state park etc etc.... Let me know and we can do this!!!!!
 
I'd be in for something like that, as long as it was reasonably close. Or if it was another excuse to go camping in the sandhills.
 
Does anyone know if there are any National Parks in the Chicago area? That seems like it may be a good spot?
 
I think you've got to go further South than Chicago but there is a big one down there (if I could just remember the darned name of it...)

Edit:Seriously I'm looking and can't find a single map or atlas here in the house and I can't find it on Google Maps. It's down in Southern Illinois along the Indiana State Line...National Park, National Forest, or State Park though? Hard to tell as I may have lost my mind. :)

Schedule permitting I'd be willing to drive out. I've got a baby coming in August so it'll be a bit hard for me to get away after that.
 
Chicago is probably way too urban in the surroundings, any place near the quad cities?
 
I've got family in Grayslake and it seems like there are some places out there. They aren't the "outdoorsy" type so they won't be any help, but it's nice out there. There's a Bass Pro Shops there too !
 
We've got some pretty nice places in Minnesota and also Northern Wisconsin, altough I realize that might not be too central for all midwesterners.
 
Dude Im down for either one of those, they both look amazing. Ive been to meremac, they do float trips and there are caves out the wazoo. Shawnee is right on the mississippi so it looks cool too!
