Might Be Dumb Question : Contact Wheel ?

I'm confused, if this is your thinking, why would you have a CNC fabricated jig for grinding knives? It seems you are looking for precision on one hand and cobbled together on the other. Do what you want, but I'm a little stumped on the goal.
What is professional contact wheel ? Who made them ? Are they better in working on lathe than my friend ? They have better balancing machine then us here ? Better rubber ? What I want to say is that steel don t care how much cost your contact wheel . . . . . . My grinder does not cost even 50 $ but I put it on the line with every belt grinder who costs 3000 ,
to see tracking ,vibrations . . . .and specialy noise :D I bet it was two times quiet then grinder with that 2 inch wheel

I think a spoked wheel is perhaps not the best start to a precision contact wheel of a large diameter. Regardless of how good your friend is with a lathe. just my opinion of course.

Are those wheels you ordered urethane or rubber coated?
I guess the urethane has worked well for a lot of people, I've just always felt it worthwhile spending the bit extra for rubber. If they work well for you, that's all that really mstters
If your question is for me. They are rubber.

Well then those could really be worth something. All of the cheap contact wheels I've seen until now have been urethane. I'll have to look into them some more, might give them a shot for something.
Would you happen to know if they offer serrated wheels?

They're rubber. I don't know what type. They list them as 60-70 Shore A, I think they mean Shore D. They're not quite 70 D but they're not that soft.

You can get them serrated.

I have an extra 2" I'll send you if you just want to see what one looks like.

Go off of what Kuraki is stating. We he ordered from the same vendor, but is more knowledgeable then me in this area.

I'll send you a pm. If they look decent I'll definitely consider it. I'll probably still had to get the 20 duro wheel from CRC, but I wouldn't mind a 6" and a serrated 10" to add to my collection.

Interesting this comment about not buying USA made. Many jump like bitten by a rattler when you mention off shore suppliers. And yet for example Damasteel for one is very well accepted. There are many others. Have a look at the Markus Balbach Damascus in both carbon steel and Damascus. It's very impressive in both the working of and results achieved.

Maybe it's from being in canada, but I've always been "reputable country" rather than a specific country. Canada, USA, England, Germany, Switzerland, Austria, Scandinavian countries, Australia, ect
I'm always happier buying something made in one of those countries over China, India, Taiwan, ect
But at least China an Taiwan have really stepped it up over the last while, and are definitely capable of producing quality. The problem is a lot of people still request "cheap" over "good". Japan was once known for producing absolute crap, now they're known for being the equal of any other industrial nation in terms of quality.
I'm sure in 10-20 years or so china will have managed the same, and India, Pakistan, and others will fill the everpresent demand for cheap products.
