Mike Alsdorf Knives

It looks like it's been a while since anyone added anything here, so I'll put up pics of mine. The toothpick just arrived a few days ago. These knives both have great fit, finish, walk and talk.

Both are great looking knives!! What's the size on the toothpick? Closed and blade length if possible as I know Mike can get a lot of blade into small packages.

I just enjoyed perusing the Alsdorf website. Somehow I can't find what steel he uses for the blades. I don't know how I missed it but... Can someone please tell me (I figured asking here would yield a quicker answer than emailing)? Thanks.

Mike has been using CPM 154 for quite awhile. He also uses 440C, or did at one point.

Ptradeco: Thanks for the quick reply. Is that somewhere on his website or is there a reason he doesn't specify? His work certainly is nice.

If you note in his website somewhere I think you will find words to the effect, "With the materials I have available". Nice guy, if you want to discuss a knife with him just contact him :) He does indeed do nice work.

Mike builds a very fine knife. I'm not usually a fan of Gunstock patterns, but this one is really nice and feels great in hand. It's an interframe with spalted maple.

You'll be very pleased. Mike keeps improving his patterns, it's almost a sunken joint. The blade is easy to open to the half stop...tension increases from the half stop to the full open position.

Sorry to revive an old thread, but I'm looking for some information. Can anyone give me any current info on Mike? Is he still around? I bought a nice coral handled jack from him several years ago, and for some reason, the backspring has broken close to the center pin. I would like to get the knife repaired, but I never get an answer or an opportunity to leave a message at the number on his website, and I can't find an email contact for him.

Thanks,

Dave

The same thing had happened to a knife of his that I own.
I couldn't find anyway to contact him on-line, so i sent him a letter that was never answered.
I am interested too in finding a way to contact him.
Hope everything is OK with him.

Mike

I spoke with Mike in person at a knife show on 1/28/17. He told me that he is still making knives and his contact number on his website is still good. I know of at least one member who has been in contact with MIke and is currently having a knife made. I cannot comment on repair issues.

You might take a look at this thread. I replied with some information after talking to Mike. Post #30 in the link below.
