Mike Obenauf To Stop Making Knives?

It's been almost two years - I don't have my knife, never received a penny of my money back, and still haven't heard a word from him. :(

ive been seeing his knives for sale on major sites. i dont know if they are from the maker or consignment, but i thought it strange to start seeing them again recently.

Can you please give an overview of what was posted on the other forum?

Keith,
I could search it & link it,but I'm not so sure that is allowed ,& ,if non members there, can access what I would link
Kit has a forum there

From memory (and I did not originally state this, because it is,from memory & I was not inclined to quote),he basically said that he (Kit) doubted he'd (Mike)get back to knifemaking and the outcome for the people involved in his dealings did not look good,at all Kit was vague about it
Hope that helps, despite the whole thing was unfortuneate.

PS I took delivery of a pre paid ordered knife, possibly 5 to 8 months prior to Mike's problem's & the transaction ,although Mike came through, had the earmarks of something was quite not rite. Going by other dealings I had with other makers,at the time, using that as a reference at that point, since I was kinda a custom knife enthusiast greenhorn.

So how many of you guys (forum members) paid for a knife and are still waiting on it from Mike?

I'm dismayed he never made some effort to correct it but particularly troubled by the story of a guy sending knives he already owned in for work that never got them back. That simply sucks if indeed it really occurred.

EDIT: By the way. Right after I first heard about this I offered Mike both titanium and to help him if he needed help. He replied to me saying something like, thanks and he would think it over. I never heard anything else from him.

Senator contact me please.

Me. Here's post #4 in this thread.

I wish I could say I'm suprised, but I'm not. He's had my money since July. I didn't pre-pay. He said he had a batch that he was finishing and that he would put my name on one of the Model 2's and ship it out in short order. Then the delays and excuses started piling up. I gave him the benefit of the doubt, but after so many excuses, I began to suspect I'd never see the knife. Still, for the last three weeks straight he's emailed my promising that I'd receive the knife "next week." And I'll be damned if I don't head to the mailbox every day hoping that this will be the day... :o

Vince, I can't remember which forum Kit has his subforum on. Could you provide that info for me? If you don't want to post the name here, please email it to me. Thanks.

E-mail sent Keith, but in case it did not come through,or, for others interested in the info :

Thank you very much.

It looks like Kit won't know anything about what Mike is doing. I don't think he has had any contact with Mike in about a year and a half.

It appears that Mike has decided not to live up to his obligations. It's very sad to think of him in the same way as Allan Blade, Jack Crain, Dale Reif and Steve Corkum, but that's the kind of person he seems to have turned out to be.

As stated earlier I'm still curious as to why there are many number of knives that are for sale on various websites which are Mikes.

I realize people get rid of their collections, but there sure are a lot of knives that are showing up.

People are probably dumping them. seems many knifeknuts don't like hanging onto knives made by thiefs, scammers, promise breakers, money owers, and makers whose word is worthless.

I would rather own a Chinese POS knife than a custom knife made by a man who has zero integrity. No matter how good it was, how nice it was and how much it cost me when the maker was a credible man of his word.

Thank goodness the POS maker club is small....................................................

Because many dealers got screwed and stuck with his knives.

From what I have learned, Mike Obenauf belongs in the hall of shame. He has ripped off a lot of people for a really substantial amount of money. He has lied about making sure that he would pay everyone back what he owed them. He's turned out to be a very disreputable person.
