I spent my obligatory year in the German airborne, where I received the issue red beret, jump wings, and ego/maroon/kingsize that is the trademark of airborne soldiers all over the world. After basic training I bought a big ,definitely non-issue POS Bowie complete with wicked blood groove that I carried strapped to my Bergen, so everybody was very friendly to me :-).
Take care,
Tobse !

Joined the Marine Corps 7/63, stayed till 8/69. Can't remember a time I didn't have a knife of some sort. Made my first one in 1989. Haven't stopped since.

A friend knifemaker turned me on to Bladeforums whe he found out I had reluctantly admitted the existance of the 20th century and aquired a computer. Now they tell me there's going to be a 21st century...I don't know..

I grew up in the Alleghney mountains of PA and I don't ever remember being without a knife. Every guy I knew carried a knife to school and everywhere else. It was part of our daily lives, like wearing pants or shoes.

I found BF while looking for info on khukuris.

I do not know whether this counts but I went to special (obligatory) army courses during my university study - at that time all of you were our enemies.

Then - a few years after - I completed my military service duty (obligatory again) as a ...(it is still clasified even though you are not our enemies anymore

).

I have been always interested in knives but I started to buy more of them during and after my trips to US.

I found BF (and KFC) through some search engine.

Tried to get into the army when I was a bit down on my luck, but had large amounts of metal in my body so was immediately disqualified.

Interview ended rather abruptly.

Cool scars, anyway...

Active Duty Air Force Chief Master Sergeant. Have served for 24 plus years. Worked on Intercontinental Ballistic Missile electronics and guidance systems while I was a technician. Pulled alerts on a Titan II launch crew for the first 10 years. The highlight of my career has been serving as the Maintenance Superintendent of a squadron at Vandenberg AFB CA test launching Minuteman and Peacekeeper ICBMs and working associated projects. USMC '73 to '77 Avionics. I fixed radios, radar and other nav aids on KC-130s. The "electricians knife" was issued to us as the TL-29 and i used it extensively, sometimes in place of a VOM for checking voltage (kids, don't try this at home). I've had a knife in my pocket ever since I was about 9 years old and feel very naked without one. I have a Leatherman Wave and either my BM Stryker or Livesay Woo on my person all the time.

Sorry I'm late. I was lost in one of the other forums.
