Some of the magazine publishers are doing a deal where, for $10, you can send a subscription to one of their magazines to GIs in the warzones. I sent 4 through the publishers of Automobile Magazine. That is two more since I last posted on this.

And thanks to all of those companies that offer deals and assistance to the GIs and a special big thanks to AG Russell.

I just received an email from the company that was offering the subscriptions for soldiers deal. It is Primedia and here is the email for those interested:

I just wanted to correct one thing. We do not discount from MSRP, but, from catalog price which is always lower, sometimes much lower than MSRP.

It looks like you have set up in the knife business, I hope that you are not taking advantage of your buddies.

Thanks for the offer. If we took money we would have to have a non-profit corp and another accountent. Right now we have about 15,000 paperback books from our friends and customers. When we get short again we will ask for more.

Buying stuff works!

We can always use movies (DVD only please) and CDs thanks for asking.

A. G.

A.G., I've got about two to three boxes of paperbacks I'm not reading, where can I send them? They're mainly mystery novels from a friend, but some sci fi and military thrown in. Also have a ton of magazines, like Blade, Maxim, FHM, Blender and Stuff. My email is silenthunterstudios@hotmail.com.

BTW, your catalog reminds me of getting the Sears catalog when I was a kid, except now I circle everything!

I am seriously impressed, Mr Russell. Well done, Sir. I'm off to buy a knife
from you to say thank you. Sincerely, Mick Leal, Portsmouth, England. :)

You know, I have a ton of modern military history books that I am trying to get rid of. Does anyone know of any worthy groups that will accept such titles? The Arlington County Library was not interested, nore were the schools. Trying to give away books on military history is not easy in an are with a lot of liberal "P.C." people, although you would think that it would be different is this area with all of the military.

I never expected so many great replies. I hope more soldiers manage to stumble across this thread. Thank you to everyone who has posted suggestions and voiced their support.

Jim, how's Afghanistan treating you? I'll be heading that way soon enough.

A.G

I am NOT in the knife industry or do I even sell knives to other Soldiers. I do give out this list to them to order their own. Many in my former unit in Eastern Afghanistan have. My job is NOT to take advantage of them, but to help them. I like knives and like to purchase from military friendly companies is all.

Below is the email contacts of the knife companies and my opinion on my experience only. Hope it helps other Soldiers. All the companies below have great prices for Soldiers.

I am 23-hours away from the nearest US unit in the Hindu Kush Mountains. My six man team of Guard Soldiers are excellent.

Thank you and yes we still honor the discount. Pls feel free to write to us the kukris you want then I will quote the total price with the discount and shipping to the USA (H/W delivery). Yes the standard engraving in the OIFK can be customized. "Operation Enduring Freedom, Afghanistan" is very much possible. Our large stand would fit a kukri with the overall length of 25 inches. In your case I will have to make a slightly larger one which is possible for us. Firstly pls mention what you want and how many then we can work out the price. Lastly, we look forward to serving your order.

I guess this was my first and last order with Kershaw. Too bad as I like some of Kershaws products, but with so many other quality knife companies giving out excellent military discounts, I will need to stick to military friendly companies.

Dear James, Tuesday, November 14, 2006 5:56 pm

The total cost for the items that you have requested will be $241.38 that
price including shipping and handling of $5.00.

Also at this time I would like to inform you that we no longer are able to offer the 50% off discount for our military personnel. Because you inquired about this earlier in the year and was informed that you received 50% off, I got your request approved but unfortunately in the future the discount will not apply. Please get back to me with your billing information and I will be more than happy to process your order completely:

Thank you,
Jennifer
