Military Jr.?

Thanks, Carlos, for the hard work of stringing together those Spyderco forum posts.

At this point, I am assuming another year at least, since I assume "short run in 2002" means that the run will occur on December 21, 2002!

Thanks guys.

It makes an interesting saga to see the actual words from Sal over three years. I wish I could have found more.

So any word on this? I see it's not in the catalog, but will the Military get its own compression lock later in this year? Next year? Anyone have any idea?

I waited far too long in my purchasing of SpyderCo's to finally get the Military (a couple months ago). The second I got it, I realized why it's such a classic. I can't wait for a compression model!

I guess the plans have changed as it doesn't seem to be in the cards anytime soon. AFAIK as of this month, it isn't scheduled for this year. I haven't seen any mention of the Mil Jr. either in recent plans. I'll ask Sal.

Funny I was just playing with my military the other night and thinking about the "rumored" Mil Jr someday. I still would love to see it happen. I think the military is one of the better and smoother knives I have ever handled but its a tad to big to carry most places. I like Sal's idea of not making it "smaller" just a little off both ends. Hopefully someday soon.

Hi. First of all, my apologies on not having the model in motion and not getting back sooner. Carlos pretty much has give the background, thanx much. I guess I can bring you up to date. the original design was a linerlock. Then we decided to change to a compression lock so the design was re-engineered. Then out in house prototype guy left the company so the design sat while others were being worked on.

We're going back now to make up protos and make sure that everything works. My plan is to have a sample ready by Blade show in June.

There have been some other changes since the last design was penned. New steels. So if actual production does happen on the smaller Mil, we have more options.

So as long as we're here, and there seems to be some interest, handle material and color are now in question. Perhaps I could get a 1st, 2nd and 3rd choice in handle material and color? Compression locks do not require the G10 rigidity that a linerlock does so there are more options.

Hi Sal!

1st choice- carbon fiber with colored threads in it (like Elishewitz is using)

2nd choice- green and black micarta (camo micarta)

3rd choice- green G-10

YEA SAL!!!!!!!
I guess my choices would be:
1. Black G-10: I like the way the military looks right now.
2. Blue G-10: would look good and be different.
3. Carbonfiber and nickel: check out www.carboncreations.com pistol grips. They look like braided steel grips (that would be ultracool)

just my 2 cents worth.

New steels, eh? Can someone say S30V? ;) heh, heh, heh....

I would say as far as handle material:
(1) Black/green (camo) micarta, as above.
(2) Most any color of g10 or micarta, except black
(3) Black g10 (or micarta).

Oh, and please no fuschia/black g10, like the original Benchmade Ares. I have one, and like it OK, but I only need one of that color. ;)

What he said :D Here is a Spydie to really get excited about!

Yeah i really like carbon fiber and Titanium, but to keep the price down i would go with either carbon fiber or g-10 or micarta. preferably red cause i want a red knife to match all the other colors i already have

I like the idea of red as well. But, I'm betting that won't be an option, since red is reserved for training knives (Spyderco Gunting, Endura, Delica, and several Benchmades as well). But, red and black blend would be awesome, I think. Especially in a micarta.

I agree with Wire Edge and Blademan 13 --

1st choice- carbon fiber with colored threads in it (like Elishewitz is using)

2nd choice- green and black micarta (camo micarta)

3rd choice- green G-10

Any of these three would be a definite "must buy".

Thanks Sal!

1. Carbon Fiber, preferrably like Microtech uses

2. Micarta, any color

3. G-10, any color other than black - green or combo's would be just fine.

Speaking of the Ocelot, I saw some picture of the prototypes today for the first time and am VERY interested in it.

Any final word yet on what materials and when it will be released????

How about a tan or khaki G-10 handle.

Would the yellowish color around this banner classify as tan or khaki?

If so that's the color I want :D
