Military or Chinook

A few years ago I was trying decide between the "OG'" full sized CE manix and a Millie for uses similar to what you describe. At the time I missed out by a matter seconds as my dealer wound up being out of stock on the Manix and I ended up going with the Chinook III.

The Chinook III's build quality, tip strength and ergos are excellent. Yet on an edc level the plentiful belly and upswept tip wound up being more of a hindrance than anything else, that is unless your processing meat or have to defend yourself. This is also a very comfortable knife in hand.

The Millie is an outstanding allrounder, this is a true utility knife and lends itself well to a vast array of tasks. It's light weight, open construction, high carry clip all add up to a indispensable tool when it comes to working outdoors. Don't over look the SE version either.

If your entertaining the idea of a OG Mini Manix also investigate the Gayle Bradley M4, which is has all but single handedly retired my faithful Mini Manix.

Many more good posts to consider since last night. As much as I like the idea of a heavy use folder (manix, chinook), if I can get a fixed blade with similar weight and blade length then I need to go that way. It's not for EDC after all.

On the otherhand, the quote from Sal about the Military construction, some youtube vids of hard use, and posts here have dispelled my misconceptions about Military durability. I need one of those at least to try out. Call it a 3 knife solution.

You will never regret buying one. Never.
