Military or Endura?

Hi All. IF---I want a longer blade than my P-Mil. which Spyder do I choose, Military or Endura?

Military! If you like the Paramilitary you will love the Military. I used to like the Para... that was before I got the Military, and this knife I love. I gave away the Para and now I EDC the Military.

Either would be a great choice....., but I realize that advice may not be particularly helpful in making a decision.

If budget is a concern....the Endura is the logical choice. The newest Model 4 has SS liners reinforcing the FRN handles, and the tip profile is a tad more robust than earlier models. It's a work horse for sure; the VG-10 blade steel is superb. "Sprint Run" Pink handled models have just hit the marketplace if the color so inspires you. I'm always misplacing my black handled Model II Endura when working in the yard....I doubt I would have difficulty locating one with a pink handle !

The Military is a masterpiece of ergonomic design. The handle is big, NOT heavy, and VERY comfortable; the full flat ground 4" blade cuts like a light saber ! Because of the open back handle design the overall weight of the Military is deceptively lightweight for it's size. The G-10 scales are grippy and elegant. Several blades steel choices are available at the moment. I was the proud owner of a lovely CPM-D2 model.....but alas, due to my clumsy ways I recently lost it. I am particularly sad as it was a special gift from family members. I can recommend the CMP-D2 model highly !

+1 to what Gramps said about budget constraints.
Also, if price is of little concern, you might think about the Endura in ZDP 189 as well. If I'm going to be going through lots of thick tough stuff (multiple cardboard boxes) during the day, Endura ZDP. If I need a more accurate slicer, Military (any steel). I have the Millie in S30V and BG 42, and they are amazing. But if I worked in a warehouse, I'd probably go with the Endura, even though personally I've carried both.

ummmm i'm not too much on the linear locks so the military would be a downgrad IMHO, but the endura is just a different style of knife....different lock, handle, handle material, blade steel, clip positions, and most importantly blade tip.....makes this a little more of a utility knife vs. military/para

military

flat grinds rule, ergos are great, and you can get some awesome steels right now. Great knife.

im not sure, but isnt the military HUGE?

I don't know if I would call it huge, especially compared to the Endura.

Endura- length overall 8 3/4" blade length 3 3/4"

Military- length overall 9 1/2" blade length 4"

So the Millie has a 1/4" longer blade (and probably wider as I look at them stacked in front of me), and the handle is about 1/2" longer (and again wider), so that probably gives it the illusion that it is much bigger. It doesn't carry that much bigger either, very comfortable for EDC.

Then again, I can palm a basketball, so there would be very few folders I would consider huge. :)

If you have worries about the liner lock... don't! It's one of the best liner locks in the industry, and locks into place with a very solid clunk.

Endura

- about 3 times cheaper( VG-10 version)
- beter blade/handle ratio than Military
- stronger tip
- good steel ( Vg-10) or super abrasion resistant (ZDP-189)
- solid lock-up

im not sure, but isnt the military HUGE?
you know, i used to think the same way
after EDC-ing it though, all the other folders seem incredibly small and unexpectedly heavy...
all current versions of the military are great, and better ones are yet to come (S90V and maybe in the future a millie w/ the stop lock)

For regular EDC I say get the Military. If you are going to be doing any rough utility work the Endura would be better.

The Military has the most comfortable handle of any folder I've held (until I get the Hossom Retribution). It fills your grip and the width of your palm is always in contact with the handle. It gives you excellent control and plenty of space for different hand positions, I wouldn't have it any other way.

What is Spyderco's stop-lock? As of now, the Millie is ahead of the Endura.

Well, I purchased an Endura ZDP-189. I have a P-Mil. and that is knife is darn close to being a Military. I carried my first Endura longer than any other knife, so I came back to square one---the Endura. Thanks for all the advice and Thank You Spyderco. When you choose a Spyderco, you really can't go wrong.
