Military vs Para

We all come in different sizes and have different needs and desires and have to cope with different situations.

Neither knife is better than the other, but one or the other is gong to be better for different people in different situations.

It's nice to have both as an option. They are excellent knives.

If I HAD to sell one of them, the Military would have to go. I find the Para to be more versatile.

IMO, they may share the Military name and general profile but seem like two very different knives. So you do really need both.

If I HAD to chose just one(glad I don't) I guess I would pick the Military. I can't think of another knife this light and strong for its size. Also has many grip options. Tough question!

I own both the para and the "regular" sized military, black with plain edge. The para served me well, and the military grew on me, so I bought it. It now has been converted to tip up and goes everywhere with me! It has cut countless strands of 550 cord and lanced many a MRE open! Just remember that some states don't like blades over 3" (if I remember correctly).

For me, the Military wins easily. I have handled multiple models of each, but I still own multiple Militaries and no Paras. I prefer the Military due to the fact that its ergonomics are better for me and my uses (the handle fits me like a handshake from a twin). I did give away a CPMD2 Para to a fellow law enforcement officer and friend, though, and it is his favorite knife, so opinions vary.

I don't own a Para becaue I can't warm up to the lock.

That said I didn't own a military until the foilage green model spoke to me, then the orange........

I don't know. I like them both. But probably would go with the Millie over the Para if I was pressured.

Millie size blade, Para sized handle
Pleeez Sal! :o

That is physically impossible....there is no way to fit a 4" Millie blade into the para handle. 3.5" perhaps, if the pivot was higher and the blade a few 8th's longer. That would still be pushing it a bit aesthetically and ergonomically.

BTW....I'm impartial. I own several of both, and carry one of each (Para-LF and Military RF). They are my EDC, unless I'm carrying a larger fixed blade. In that case, one stays home depending on where and what.

I carry an 440V Se Mille and a D2 Para at work, I could'nt do with out either one.
The Para's handle suit's my hands better than any other knife. This is my favorite general EDC.
At first I thought the Millie's handle was to large, that changed as soon as I put on a pair of work gloves. Hard work is when this beast truly shines.

Bo.

I really want a Millie just for its size. Seems like it'll be able to handle stuff my D4 can't

When I bought my first Military, it was a choice between it and the Para (at a street store). I chose the Millie because the price was the same and the "bigger is better" mentality won out in my brain. I kicked myself for about a year for that (and got an orange Millie in the mean time ;) )

I finally got a Para (D2) and its a much easier blade to carry. The lock is confidence inspiring too.

Don't get me wrong, the Millie is a fantastic knife, but I feel really self conscious even having it on me. That might change if I lived in a place where I could actually carry it legally.

I have both and collect them! Always looking for older millies too! Still carry my 440v Millie and its an EDC at times. I have an orange one with black blade-very nice looking too! I hope Spyderco keeps doing variations too!!
