Military vs. Paramilitary 2

I don't own a Military, but I can't see how you could go wrong with a Para 2. It's quickly become my favorite knife.

Here's the breakdown:

They're both great knives, and you're going to end up owning both; however it is best to get the Paramilitary 2 before the Millie.

The Paramilitary 2 has four-way pocket carry as well as being smaller and easier to carry. The Paramilitary 2 also features a compression lock - disengaging the lock won't cause the blade to come down on your finger if you're not careful.

The Paramilitary 2 is smaller and also therefore easier to explain to your family and the sheeple.

The nice thing is that I live alone in the middle of nowhere basically, and everyone who knows me knows that I'm into knives and such so that's never a problem for me.
On a different note, and I know this is completely different, but what about the Edura 4 ffg??

You're going to need an Endura eventually as well. Sorry. Get the PM2 first, then the others.

Really? Because I was thinking that I'd really only be using it for lighter tasks such as prepping some trout and such while leaving the heavy use to my Adamas or one of my fixed blades. And at around twice the cost, is it really that much better?

If you want to keep it simple and still get an amazing knife, try this.

That's one of my pacific salts with a reground tip.

Everyone needs to try some serrated H1 at some point. These things cut like no other knife I own.

Edit: don't get me wrong, I'm not trying to talk you out of a Millie or pm2! They are both spectacular options. But a serrated h1 salt is a helluva a cutting machine.

That looks like some great eats there man! Nice pics! I'm definitely not a serrated guy but maybe a plain edge? There's really not much worry about salt water up here either, as I am up in the mountains right by Yosemite. Haha But definitely something to think about!

Plain edge H1 isn't nearly as good as the serrated due to the way it hardens (Work hardening rather than a heat treat)...VG10 is a good steel and the Endura is a great knife, but not as great as the ParaMilitary2 IMO. I think the standard S30V PM2 is the best knife in the world for the price it's offered at. There's a very good reasons most stores are almost constantly sold out of their PM2's a few days after receiving stock...much more of an issue than with any other knife I've seen, and it's because the knife is that good.

Yeah, that's a good point.

I wasn't either until I started using the serrated salts. I am constantly amazed by the way these blades cut. I'm not talking about roughly sawing through and ripping material. I'm talking about the effortless slicing and push cutting of a very sharp serrated edge. It is something to behold. :) I'm just saying...don't write them off.

For now, go grab yourself a pm2. You'll be stoked.

I'd say an Endura is enough for most tasks, plain edge Of the Salt.

Sorry, but from utility perspective, more than enough unless you really love the PM2 shape & ergonomics.

I don't have both, and I've been buying Spyderco since the eighties. I have no use for the PM2. It's a small inferior Military.
As for smaller bladed models I prefer diversity. Bob Lum, Dyad.

I was born in the 80's 😁 and respectfully disagree! The Military is a way larger, clumsier version of the PM2 with tip down only!Spyderco got it right the second time around. Good thing we have options!

The implication was that over time everyone would buy both. Not that someone born in the eighties would prefer the wee-little one. LOL

The Military came 1st, therefore the PM2 is a version of the Military. Not vice versa.

I have both and the military collects dust. However like I stated above thank goodness we have options! Both models are extremely popular but the OP asked for our opinion and that's what I gave him.
