Military

That has been my experience as well. I have hands larger than average and I like the Military as it is. (I like the PM2 and Manix 2 as well.) I carry knives both ways and I find that carrying a long knife tip up not only takes a lot longer when opening the knife but is also less secure. Of course in my case this is clipped right front pocket in the tight jeans that I normally wear. People that carry other ways may need other clip options.

So I have quite a PM2 collection as well and I wouldn't dream of carrying it tip down. But this is because my hand can get down the handle when I insert my thumb in the pocket to draw it. The military though is different, the handle is so long that that method of draw doesn't work without the hand needing to crawl up the handle to reach the thumb hole. This is why I now believe tip down is appropriate for the full Military - for my hand. YMMV though. I suppose this is another feather in the cap of providing options like on many of the newer designed spydies.

Hi Carbonex,

Welcome to our forum.

When we designed the model, back in the mid 90's, We wanted to maitain the curved clip and tip down was the only solution. On future models (Millie 2, etc), the plan is for a 4 way clip (for which we will not doubt get beefs as to "all the holes". :p

sal

The "All the holes" thing is silly IMO. I know Leatherman thinks otherwise but I believe , and I think most, think the extra wholes are virtually invisible. It's a great low cost/high return feature.

BTW, consider me a fan of the relief as well. I know there have been a few that were critical of it's inclusion.

Got my military today. Side to side is bank vault tight. But front to back it has quite a bit of play. Pushing forward you can see the lock bar slide and there's 1/16 to 1/8th inch of play. Kind of bummed cause everything else about it is nice

1/8th" wow. I have a frame lock Lum that has up and down play till I grip the frame which tightens the lock up. It was disconcerting at first.

That sucks! Try getting in touch with the spydercrew, they might be able to do something about it.

Open it hard a few times and the lock will usually settle in quickly. If it doesn't contact Spyderco CS or your dealer.

Yea I figured I'd open it a bunch of times while I wait for them to open today. If it settles in the great. If not it will have to make a trip back to golden. I'm sure they'll sort me out though

The more I play with it the more it seems to be settleing in. I am gonna play with it for a day or to to see if it gets better. In the mean time I needed to sharpen it

Finally, I can join the club. An awesome knife.

Congrats.... and it is an awesome knife.

It is an awesome knife...of course. Sorry for my English.
Sometimes I make a mistake when I write, I hope you will forgive me.
I just want to share my admiration for these knives. :o

I am soooo close to putting one in the cart right now. Just not sold on the one position pocket-clip.

Wasn't correcting your english. Mine isn't that good either, and it's my language. ;)

I was agreeing with you. :)

I too used to not care for the one position clip and strongly desired a 4 way clip, but actually think the knife works best in its tip down configuration due to the length of the handle. If you do add to cart, you won't regret it.

I have a bunch. My favorite Spyderco platform. I cannot resist another Military. They cut like crazy, are light and easy to carry and I think the Military possibly has the most variety in steels in the Spyderco line. I have a hard time deciding which I like best - probably the M4, but there's nothing wrong with s30.
