Milled clip design

Nice work. Is there a way to trim it down a bit so the overall side profile of the knife is slimmer?

Also, is that a modded Benchmade 975 ... got any more pics of it? Very nice!

That's great input thank you! Yes it is :)

Agreed. Stands too far from the body of the handle. Maybe contour it a little thinner where the screw holes are?

Sweet I'll see what I can do thanks!

Everyone's input has been super helpful. After having the plastic clips printed, a few revisions, I am now having one printed out of grade 5 ti (yes they can print that!)

Here is the final one that is heading my way from the printing company. The changes I made from the initial clip are that I thickened up the middle section and elongated it slightly, also made it slightly wider in the middle. Then I rounded/tapered the screw hole end so it doesn't stand so far off of the scales there.

I really like it and wouldnt hesitate to order some for my folder builds. I'm not sure if I missed it or not but what material is it printed out of? Not to familiar with 3d printing!

The prototype I have coming to me is being printed out of grade 5 Titanium (6al4v). The ones I produce will be machined instead though, from the same material. But I may do a spin off here and there w/ timascus or something.

The possibilities of custom-printed timascus are endless...
Lol, they can't print timascus.... Only grade 5 titanium. And it has a slightly bumpy/peened surface, not smooth like machining would produce. I'm mainly doing the printed one since it's relatively simple/cheap for them to make a one off proto for me vs machining it which is a lot more with set ups, programing for cnc, etc

I read up on the process after you first mentioned it. Apparently 3D printed titanium is just laser cintered titanium powder. If they can do that with grade 5, it shouldn't be a technical challenge to make it work with multiple grades - possibly just vary the wavelength or intensity of the laser as needed. I don't know what particle size they use (in other words, the resolution of the printout), but again, that should just be an engineering question, not a technical challenge.

I doubt 3D printed parts would be as structurally sound as their forged counterparts, but if it's just for aesthetics, it should be good enough.

Thanks for the reminder search! Yeah you are right .. But what I meant was that the company I'm going through doesn't offer that service only one or two grades. Plus I'm not sure how the patent on timascus would work anyway. But regardless I'm planning on having these machined anyway this is just a proto.on the plus side I can see how structurally sound the sintered ti is!

I would like to place an order in advance for my Benchmade sir. A clip like that would make most any knife look and feel sexyer. The shape and profile are perfect IMO.:thumbsup::thumbsup:

By way of update... should have 40 reg and 10 timascus next week! Thanks for everyone's help on this!

Check out pics of the 3D printed prototype on a CQC-7. The final version is going to be about 3/16" shorter though, so not quite as long.

I really want one for my zt620. I just need to figure out how to get the sheared off pocket clip screws out

Hey Josh ... do you have a list of knives you will be making these clips for? Or are you just making them as ordered for any knife?

Thanks ... I think they would be a nice addition on several folders ... I'd definately be interested in trying some.

This is cool not that I have a knife this seems compatible with but I am liking the work and I must say the texture on the printed one I actually like.
