Milling Machine instructional DVD. What would you like to see?

I agree with Rob!...Something that shows the person who knows nothing about milling how to start and at least mill a guard.

MILLING FOR IDIOTS.....

I have looked for the book in the Dummies series "Milling for Dummies" but they don't have one.
I'll buy the video as soon as you have it ready..

Skip the background music. Sometimes the sound of the machine is important/useful.

+10.

Nice to be able to hear the pitch change. A few knifemaking videos would have been better if you could hear the grinder running. Then you could get a sense for belt speed , pressure , when the maker was grinding out of the groove , etc.

I wish i was taught how to use a milling machine, I am working off mostly common sense. My shop class views the milling machine as not even as versatile as a surface grinder.

The hardest thing for me is trying to clamp down pieces so that the piece stays square/parallel.

Sounds cool! I just recently scored a nice old Bridgeport. My machining skills are minimal, and would like to increase them. I'd be interested, and dig seeing things done rather than reading about it how its done;-)

Thanks for the encouragement! Yes...I've made some progress. I've shot a few "chapters" including one showing how to make this adjustable mill stop:

vice-stop007.jpg

The mill stop focus is on using the rotary table to make arcs and is done by manual measurements without a DRO. There is also a chapter specifically for Non-DRO techniques...showing how to deal with back lash and how to use your dials without losing your measurements.

I've done another chapter just on cutting fundamentals including speeds, feeds, chip load, climb and conventional directions and several comments about endmill types (2 flute, 4 flute, roughers, carbide, steel..etc.)

Making the DVD is proving to be way more difficult than I ever imagined. Its so frustrating...because feel like I'm trying to cram a lifetime of experience into 60 minutes. I just can't cover it all...and really struggle trying to decide what to cut.

Anyway...I've gotten discouraged..and busy..and have put the DVD on the back burner for a while, so I can rethink the process. The stuff that is done so far ...is amazing ( in my opinion).

Anyway....It'll be several months at the earliest.

Sincerely, Rob

I've bought a few instructional dvds now and I always end up scratching or otherwise destroying the disc. Some don't even play in my dvd player. Maybe you could distribute it digitally?

How to build a KMG grinder with your mill

and i think that he was joking but...this could be your niche

If you made this video - and especially if you put some pdf plans on
It would be popular-very very popular
It would give more exposure to your grinder and other products
those who DIY - would do it themselves anyway - and maybe buy wheels and such from you.
Many others would just buy the grinder from you and use it in their projects - ie woodworkers
