Benchmade mini knife - 380 Aller

find me another example. I'm curious.

Many Victorinox knives, while not a direct comparison, would have similar utility. They're not US made and have a softer steel, but are the original travel-friendly knives at an outstanding value.

True in the sense of utility and I love them. But not even close to true in the terms of materials and other things.

1) yes, the bulletin board is the precursor to the internet, just as Babbage's difference engine and the Jacquard loom are precursors to the computer. But nobody calls their computer a difference engine because they are pedantic.

2) If one does not like the "hive mind" here, there is a very simple way to avoid it.

3) I would not buy that knife. It's silly. But I am not going to call people who would buy it, or do buy Benchmade products, or the people at Benchmade, "suckers". That's insulting/trollish. Maybe some members who and only been less than two months don't realize that stuff is frowned upon here.

I like the knife, and don't find the price absurd. Just because it's half the size of a normal pocket knife doesn't mean it costs half as much to make. That's not the realities of manufacturing, materials are likely the smallest cost in manufacturing. Yes BM knives aren't cheap, but they're hardly way out of line when looking at some other manufacturers. The quality is far better than most budget knives imo, and with the warranty it's a knife for life. That's worth something. Not to mention with all the cardboard and paper slicing happening, it's more than adequate. Not saying I'll buy it, but I like it.

another manufacturer with a similar price & knife: Spyderco McBee (msrp $200, map $130) which uses cts-xhp & Ti handle

Only similarities are the blade shape and size. Fails on almost every other attribute, most importantly locking.

the California legal kershaw launch comes to mind... right? no pivot on those?

Must dislike all folders. Unless there is a pivotless folder I am unaware of. :D

Have no issues with folders..lol
I own about 30.
;)
I just personally don't like to have a big gaping hole in my knife's blade.
I understand the thought process behind the Spyderhole, and it's patented design.
Im just not a fan of it.

There are probably alot of personal preferences that I have that don't align with the majority here on BF.
:D

No reason to get upset about it.
Just my personal preferences.
You do you.

for some reason I thought kershaw launch were OTF - just by looking at them, but I guess they are not

I guess I should list hogue, benchmade phaeton and of course dozens of microtechs which are OTF

Lol no worries.
I'm an adult. Internet posts don't make me feel insulted.

It's an overpriced $160 keychain knife.

BM fans will still buy it because it has a butterfly on it.
BM knows this, as shown by it's MSRP.
But hey, it's your wallet.

You should probably not get so upset over a post on a bulletin board, that wasn't directed at you.
;)

I don't mean this in a bad way but some points have been made or need to be made again.
It's not a keychain knife. It has a pocket clip. I'm assuming your name for it would be based on it's small size.

It's not $160.00. I've seen it on some of our forum sponsored sites for $127.50

Lastly, it is only worth what someone is willing to pay for it. For some, $127.50, $136.00, or $160.00 for a knife is not a big deal and might be pocket change to the individual, whether they are a collector, just like knives, or buy knives for a particular purpose.
For others, they have their reasons why they would never spend that kind of money on any particular knife or maybe no knife at all in that price range. Simply because they choose not to, can't afford it, or don't perceive the value to be there for a particular blade.

As far as Benchmade is concerned, they got to where they are by doing something right and putting out products that people want to buy. They also have a reputation for some of the best customer service in the industry and I can vouch for that from personal experience. I'm no fanboy for any company, product, or person but I'm glad companies like Benchmade are around.

Thinking about this more and more, what other knife are you getting all these attributes at this price? To the list above I'll throw in USA made by a company that has your back, non-locking so it is more world travel friendly, and the attractive anodizing.

Seriously, complainers and conspiracy theory hive mentality haters, find me another example. I'm curious.

Thanks, Craytab, I almost forgot the best part (for me anyway), Made in the U.S.A.
AND, customer service is stellar. BM stands behind what they make.

Something they do at great cost i'd bet. Just lifesharp alone I'm sure costs them a great deal. Nevermind the other ways they bend over backwards to make customers happy.

I love small knives but I'm typically lukewarm on Benchmade as while they make some great knives, they seem overpriced for what they are. The 380 seems exactly that.

That said, if I saw one one the exchange, or heavily discounted, I'd try one.

Auto and locking have nothing to do in relation to my question. Nor does it relate in any way to the knife in question.
