MiniBuck 425

Congrats on finally finding the Peach, now you just gotta find the combo edge 425's that were offered if you care about those versions anyways.

I've seen a picture of a camo 425 with combo edge, read a post in an old thread mentioning a coated blade with combo edge, and another post mentioning a supposed burgundy that existed.

Maybe I'm mistaken because I haven't found a picture of the orange serrated 425, but I vividly remember it.

I remember the grey one I saw having been a bonus knife in a combo pack , and I vividly remember loving the orange one but wishing it had a plain edge blade.
This was in 2010 that I learned of these 2 , but the YouTube video's I watched featuring them may have been a year or two old at that point.

I still couldn't find the orange one I remember, but there was apparently a standard black 425 with combo edg I also found a picture of a blue kryptek camo 425 with combo edge, but couldn't borrow that picture.Buck-425-Bucklite-Folding-Pocket-Knife-Manual-Open.jpg

I don't own any 425's with the serrated blade. I have only looked at photos of them online. I'm not sure I'll jump right into collecting those, but I might buy one just to try it out :)

I grabbed a photo of the different colored 425's I have now. I included the green and the lime green in the photo.

Yellow
Peach
Blue
Camo
Gray
Green
Orange
Pink
Black
Purple - I might look into replacing the blade on this one
Red
Lime Green

I don't like serrated blades myself, but I intend all my knives for use
If I was merely collecting that's a different story and I'd probably consider going for some serrated versions of whatever model knife I happened to be collecting.

425 originally had a washer system on the pivot under the rivet head. One end was integrated into the rivet head and we would add a washer before rolling. We did strength testing and determined that the washer head was not needed. I do not remember when we made that change. I would guess somewhen 2005+, but dont quote me.

I remember hearing about a very dark green version..I like the looks of a Buckcoate chisel grind in a small blade. Not so sure how it would cut..

I sent an email to the Buck repair shop the other day asking if a blade replacement is still an option on a Buck 425. They told me that a blade replacement is no longer offered, but if I send them my purple 425 with the broken tip they can re tip it.

I contacted Buck the other day and asked them what colors of 425's were available over the years. They responded with the entire catalog history. So I thought I would share.

The model 425 "MiniBuck" was introduced to the Buck catalog in 1987 and remained in production up until 2006. It returned in 2010 and stayed in production until 2020.

The very first production samples did not have texturing or checkering in the handles. Apparently these are very rare, but they are out there. They shared this pic of them from the catalog

Handle design changes were made after the first year of production and the Gray color option was added in 1988.

In 1989, the BuckBrites were introduced.

In 1992, the BuckBrites were dropped and the blue color was added to the lineup. I have a 92 blue in my collection and it is the same color as the Buckbrite blue.

In 1994, the blue color was dropped.

In 1997, a partially serrated version was offered, with the black color and featured the gray BuckCote (Titanium Nitride) blade coating

1999 was the last year for the gray color. By 2000, it was no longer offered.

In 2002, the red color was dropped--only black remained.

The Buck 425 was removed from the catalog in 2006. It was absent from the catalog from 2006-2010. It was reintroduced with an additional safety orange color in the 2010 catalog.

In 2011, a key chain attachment option was introduced and the safety orange was dropped.

The key chain option was dropped in 2017 and the model itself was retired in 2020.

There have been experimental hydro-dipped camo colors over the years as well. Those (if made available to the public) would have been sold at factory sales. It is unknown how many were made.

I did ask about the lime green as well. They said that it was not intended to be a different color than the Buckbrite green. The color difference is likely due to a supplier difference. The different catalog number is just because the lime green was using the newer system.

Thanks for sharing. Nice that Buck responded to your request.

Another one I didn’t realize was discontinued. I have one that lives on my tackle box. It came free with my 110 several years ago. While I never carried it, it was a handy little knife.

It’s funny. Some of the knives that I just thought would always be around I find out recently I was wrong.

It would be a shame to let this thread die. When Buck responded with the catalog history, they also included a special project list

I wonder if the dark green is the hunter green from the L.L. Bean projects. I would definitely like to see a photo of one if anybody has one
