minimalist Izula

Sachmo7, you have to realize that there are other factors that go into making a knife besides just the steel and heat treat. You may think it is a $30 knife, but you're not privy to the company's other factors such as overhead. In addition to the cost of the materials and heat treat, there's the manufacturing process, quality control process, all the money it takes to pay their employees, etc. After all the costs, they have to add on top of that in order to make a profit. Then the dealers even more to that so they can make a profit too.

I agree with Dylan and ron_m80 (and probably several others, but frankly I didn't read the whole thing).

The cost of the Izula's sheath is likely nothing in the overall pricing scheme. Offering w/sheath and wo/sheath versions would also lead to headaches for Jeff and Mike with people accidentally buying the non-sheath version and then complaining about it.

As far as cost, you're getting an American made blade with a great design, a great steel, and a ridiculous warranty backed by a couple of the best guys in the industry for $45 or whatever they cost. The Condor mentioned in another post is an example of how good a deal the Izula is when you consider that $30 knife is made with cheaper labor, cheaper steel, and a simple grind.

Guys, we can't go around calling everyone a troll that has a different opinion about these knives. He isn't bashing anyone personally or even ESEE. He simply thinks the knife would cost less without the sheath and would like to see that happen. Don't blow it out of proportion because you don't agree. This is the kind of thing that will give this forum a bad reputation, and I think we're ALL better than that.

that's not something we do. we see a lot of people coming in looking to cause trouble in one form or another. (mostly the same troll... i don't think it's him, this guy uses punctuation and capital letters... and he mostly spells correctly)

they tend to follow a similar formula, and some of us recognize it. they rationalize that since 1095 is a cheap steel, the knives should be less expensive.

some of us would consider the OP calling the izula "a machine sharpened bar of inexpensive tool steel" that only takes 15$ to produce "bashing ESEE"... or ROWEN at least. they're hand sharpened and well tempered. it's not the most expensive steel, but it is quality, and american made. that means there were man hours involved, and those can get expensive.

We're just messing around we tried to talk but this would be longer than the open discushion thread by the time it'd be done. And there has been a troll screwing around the past couple days especially.

guess i'm in the minority... i like the stock sheath.

I have no problem with it and hope my description of the sheath as a mass produced low cost item did not imply low quality or value - if it did, that was far from my intent.

Sorry, I have to disagree - a Troll is a person who makes a post with the intent of creating dissent or inciting a negative reaction and I can't see any other way to read either the first post in this thread or the follow ups.
He was bashing ESEE, at the least their choice of steels and implying low quality handwork. He was derogatory and rude to people who disagreed with him.
Referring to a manufacturer's product in their own forum as a "worthless piece of plastic that adds to the cost of a mass produced knife" is not an opinion, it's trolling - a statement intended to incite anger and reaction.

The OP's own posts don't track well - in the first post he wants to buy several, in another he mentions having several in his safe, later he implies only owning 1 and wanting an aftermarket sheath, then out of the blue we're all personally attacking him and he brings religion into the mix.

I am not a huge fan of the sheath either, but I consider it part of the deal and don't complain. I am already getting an awesome knife for $45 and a free sheath so why bother?

But I am on the lookout for a new sheath for my Izula. *Hint*Hint* to you sheath makers out there.

If you like leather give us a shout.

The fact he follows the same pattern as our trolland started with a very low post count, also flushes him out. Focusing on his puncuation this time didn't fool me

And he brought up stuff that had been in other forums which is what the other troll was doing. Perhaps just a common troll trait

Problem is, and I do it too, we're feeding him. All he wants to do is get us all spurred up. Loves this stuff. Want to get rid of a troll? Best way to annoy him is ignore his posts

Yeah, there really is no argument here at all guys. This guy doesnt have a clue as to what goes into the cost of manufacturing a knife. And obviously there are those here who do. At the very LEAST the Izula w/sheath is a great value and we all know it. I think its awesome that there are people here that have the back of the companies who still deserve our money. This moth milker knows we feel passionately about such companies, and im willing to bet HE knows its a great value as well....hes just tryin to get everyones goat, starved for attention.

Eh he's easy to recognize. I don't mind people who don't like certain things. I don't mind people who dislike certain knives. Hell there's a recent thread where the op didn't like the stock rc3 sheath. He didn't get called a troll, he got multiple options suggested to him. This troll likes to pick fights, and then call us fanboys. Even now he's satisfied. We should just replied to him with a photo of a bunny with a pancake on it's head - a language he'll understand.

I've got no beef with the dude what so ever. He has absolutely no idea what it takes to run a business and no clue about things like overhead. If he says he does, he's completely full of the poop. His previous posts prove this. Therefore, I suggested we all just let it go and leave him to his own opinions. As far as I'm concerned, he's just another anonymous dude who has absolutely no experience in running a business and wants to start his bladeforums experience by living up to every standard and stereotype in the troll field manual, but, as far as me and my Jesus are concerned, he's a person and I can't dislike him for being ill-informed and ignorant. After all, do you dislike the starving trolls in Africa? Of course not. They're cute in that little "aww.. look at him trying to fit that whole Nestle's Trollbar in his mouth. Someone give him another and let's see what he does" kind of way. Personally, I applaud his efforts to increase profits and introduce new strategies to people who have run businesses for years. It takes guts. I mean, after all, where would the industrial revolution have gotten without people like Joe Joe the pet stump? We'd still be living in the dark ages!
