Minor Antique Centre Spree

Wonderful haul, Jack!!:thumbup::thumbup:

Especially love the Ibberson with the Morris advertising. Had a friend in the last year of high school that had a Morris Minor. Great little car with a ton of personality. Always had a good feeling abut Morris. :)

As for beans on toast, nothing wrong with a tasty meal on a budget. It's better than instant ramin noodles. Or maybe I'm just spoiled by Bush's brand beans with maple cured bacon!:D

That's a good size haul for a "minor" spree! You found some nice ones. I especially like that little Ibberson.

Thanks a lot Carl, yes a good honest car  The beans sound a treat

Thanks Jake, they were all in a rather up-market antique mall. They rent out shelf space, and the knives belonged to a new seller. Prices were a little high, but not off the scale, and I got the pick of the bunch

Nice pile of knives Jack, I love the old Wostenholm, a great carry if you could bury the tip a bit.

Best regards

Robin

Just a great haul, Jack! Congrats on getting the pick of the litter.
I've eaten a few beans in my lifetime, with probably many more to come!
You are not alone!!;)

What an excellent day for you, Jack! Those all look like winners. I love the tortoise shell knife and the violin tang stamp!

I see the fellas have beaten me to it. A Gaucho style knife. I have one like it which my father picked up in Argentina in the late 60's or 70's.

Here's mine after some 40 years of storage in a series of garages. As you can see, the sheath and handle are silver, which is currently tarnished.

As usual, my photography skills/equipment are lacking. The bumps on the sheath are cattle. On the other side are mounted horsemen with lariats.

Thanks Glenn, much appreciated

Thanks also to Charlie Noyes for giving me some info on this knife. Here's a two-blade version, possibly more recent than mine, a Saddlehorn Jack (or Saddlehorn Trapper)

Jack, is that gaucho stainless? one of the pictures looks like chromed carbon with a fleck or two of plating missing.

I was really wondering about the marks near the bolster SP, and got out a loupe to have a look. It was only then, that I saw, in really feint lettering (too feint to photograph), the word 'INOX'! Above that is a symbol which looks like a horn or bugle, knotted.

I spied your latest in the OLD KNIVES thread Jack!!!
What a Haul!!!
My friend I just love the Ibberson, Just look at the beautiful Swedge on the Pen Blade - advertising knives are nice-but they dont reach and grab me - but that is a very nice knife.

The Gaucho is great, not so much of a cheap Repro -Ive seen a lot worse -I was reading up on them and how proud the men are who carry them.

Jack Sir- ALWAYS a treat reading your posts - and seeing your great finds!!

The I*XL does look old with that Bolster style, a great Iron/Ebony Knife- gee didn't Sheffield smash out some outstanding knives in it's history!

Thanks a lot for the kind words Duncan. Hope you're having a great weekend my friend

Great finds Jack!
Ramen noodles arn't that bad when you go a little overboard on the knife collection:D don't ask how I know.

Hi Jack

Good haul!!
My Grand Dad used to get his cars from Kennings in Chesterfield, that little knife brought back some very fond memories, thanks for that!
If you send the IXL down to me, i can make you a toothpick to go with it, sad to see its missing it.

Have a good weekend

Paul

Hi Paul, that's a very kind offer my friend :)

Jack

That's a great haul, I vote for the Ibberson.
I feel lucky to find just one semi nice old knife here in the middle of Kentucky!

Thanks Mark, the Ibberson would be my pick too :)

I have just been to a small antiques fair, and a guy had a bone-handled Keen Kutter WW1 pattern clasp knife, and a Marbles Ideal in original sheath, but he wanted stupid money for them. The thing is, he didn't even know what they were, everything else on his stall was junk, but similarly priced.

Big thanks again to Charlie Noyes
