Miscellaneous Musings - Off-Topic Chat Thread!

With all that over with I need to decide what sharp, pointy thing to buy. As I've mentioned elsewhere, knowing so many sources of great knives with such an incredible selection is almost a challenge. So many good knives and limited money to buy them with.

Here I thought I had to hire some sort of special stork who delivers babies, now you're tellin' me I can just call Fed-Ex?

very cool and grats phil, sounds like you did it right! good to hear there are new HI fans being born!

You do know they come in triangle boxes and it takes two days to get them to your doorstep?

Speaking of storks and triangle boxes.

I was sittin here in my cubicle minding my own business, trying to stay under the radar when out of no where an officer from Edmonds, another town 45 minutes away or so enters my domain. Starts looking around, I got lots of gun pictures and knife and gun stuff in my cubicle.

My first response was I haven't been to Edmonds in many years, I DIDN'T DO IT!.

Well turns out he on regional SWAT and was here for an oral board to get a Sniper position.

But he was in my cubicle because he's about to have his first son. Actually I think it's his wife gonna have it but most of us already know that.
Turns out he wants to buy a special knife for his yet to be born son. Put it in his safe and give it to him when the appropriate time arrives.
He talks kind of soft and I hear about as good as a cedar stump so we had a bit of a communication barrier but we struggled through.

My first thought of course was a Micro Bowie thinking a co worker had told all the SWAT guys about them and they all wanted one but that wasn't it. I of course showed him mine since it was right handy on my belt where it belongs. It didn't hit the right button.

He described a hunter size, maybe 4 - 4 1/2" blade, something that could belt carry or go in a back pack.

I hooked him up with JW's information and of course the HI website and bladeforum exchange since he wants a custom one of a kind kind of a deal.

This morning I was struck with the idea of a Pen Knife. Although larger, it's still a right handy and unique blade that could still be belt carried or easily fit in a back pack.

I've sent him several emails with no responses yet so I still don't know where he wants to go or what side of the tracks he lives on although Edmonds is generally a fairly well to do type area.

Anybody else got any idea's on where to point this fellow? Seems like a right nice guy, first time I ever met him. When he mentioned the unborn son that was like a bloodhound picking up the coon scent and I'm on the trail. Really want to fix him up proper.

Also told him he needed a Chipmunk or Crickett or the Little Savage single shot 22 rifle asap too. Should be a prerequisite for newborns.

I saw JW is the man for the job. Something from Fiddleback Forge might fit the bill, too.

Philllll, Congratulations to you both, from what my friends with kids tell me life changes significantly. But they all seem to be happy, well when I see them these days they look happy and exhausted :D And a commerative Khuk does sound like a great idea. Have a matching bilton made for the little one as she grows into Dad's collection

But I retake it today, after spending all day studying, and I did it! I got the A in the course that I needed.

That is awesome Scara, Congratulations! a serious weight off your shoulders and worth celebrating. But definately a time to be amazed at how life can line up. It would have been so easy for you to miss finding out about being able to retake that test. The Universe provided what was needed and you were able to hear it to your benefit. Awesome!

Even more so because I'd sent an email and didn't get a reply until that evening. Not only that, I had to go to the Independent Study center to find out I had the retake but it's far away. If I hadn't gotten a ride there, I wouldn't have found out. I've also checked, and I got the grade I needed by one question. I even know which because I had an overriding feeling that I needed to change it when I was checking my answers. It was after a few minutes of wrestling with that feeling that I reasoned it out and chose to change it. I checked later and I was right to change it, and my grade was right on the line.

So last night I decided to buy myself a custom forged tanto by an unknown maker as a reward for myself. It should arrive by about Wednesday.

Thanks all. He was born healthy at 2:09 this morning.

Glad to hear! Enjoy your new "money pit", er....addition to the family, and I know your son will definately have some heirloom HI khuks to inherit!

Seriously, glad all went well, and hope your wife has a fast and healthy recovery.

Congrats Philllll! I hope you don't like sleeping because you aren't gonna be getting any for a long time.

My daughter's around two and a half now. The pregnancy was all normal and by the book until the last two weeks when she decided to flip upside down. So we had to get a c-section. She just likes being difficult like her old man.

Steve seems to be quite popular too.

Don't let blue scare you, sleep is way overated and really it ain't that bad.

We had 3 c sections, doc said no more after 2 but we did a 3rd just to prove we could.

Don't waste a second with em, blink and they'll be borrowing the car.
