Missed out on the 85 Crown Lifter? New Böker might fill the gap.

I have seen it done, but you would have to fabricate some bolsters for it, those are tin shells, like the handles (and part of it). OH
I was going to say, those are shell construction and recovering them would be difficult and not worth the cost (to me).

The one thing that upsets me about recent Boker...
Their single blade knives cost more than their multi-blade knives... that's just taking advantage of the market (to me).
Sell a knife based on what it takes to make it, not inflate the price greatly just because it's a more "trendy" or "hot" model.
No way a single-blade Stockman should cost more than a three-blade Stockman!!!

Boker has been doing some good stuff... and no goofy bottle shield.:thumbsup:
I think the micarta and bone can carry the bottle shield but on the dead skunk there is just too much going already so with the bottle shield on it too the knife just becomes comical in a way. I only got the dead skunk and carries it quite a lot but the shield irks me.

I just got one of these, in the green curly birch. The release date, originally April 9th, was pushed back a number of times, but the last one (July 15th) held. I made it all the way to the 16th before I ordered. I should have had it yesterday, but I missed the delivery. The knife came in an head-scratchingly large box; when I opened it there was a copy of Boker's 339 page glossy catalog inside. That will be fun to page through on a rainy day.

The knife is fantastic. Great, smooth action right out of the box, with a nice firm pull (5.5?). Everything is flush and gapless. In my opinion, the wood looks excellent and it is really well finished.

I think it's a little smaller than the 85 at 8.5 cm. Probably a little narrower, too. I will pull out my 85 and compare when I have the chance.

I've been patiently waiting for those to hit the shelves.
Seems they still haven't arrived yet and only available through Boker USA.
I'm not anxious enough to pay almost $100 more for it from Boker.
If you were able to find it on a shelf, perhaps you could PM me the dealer?

Second that. Everywhere I've checked, it is still Pre-Order or "Coming Soon." I like the blade profile a lot. Would be interesting to compare against the GEC 85 crown lifter and the Lionsteel beerlow side-by-side-by-side.

JohnDF JohnDF Sorry, I am afraid I can't be of much help with respect to this. I live in Europe (the Netherlands), so I ordered direct from Böker in Solingen. I was surprised to see how much more expensive it is from Böker USA.

Here is a (crappy) photo of the Böker next to the 85 Crown Lifter. Without my glasses, I measured the swell-end jack at 8.5 x 1 x 2.2 cm and the 85 at 9.5 x 1 x 2.7 cm, so the Böker is more compact. One thing to note is that the nail knick is pretty close to the handle, and the blade on the Böker is not pinchable, like the GEC. The pull isn't super strong, so it's not a problem to open (and I have kind of brittle nails), but if you have arthritis or other hand problems it is worth considering.

GEC has definitely been getting a little campy with their knives. The Beer and Sausage, Urban Jack...by comparison the cola bottle shield is pretty tame.

It's just my opinion, but they're wasting valuable time and resources turning out these goofy things, when they could be making real pocket knives, like the English Whittler they recently released.

Between the goofy factor and the damn-hard-to-get factor, I'm over GEC.
