Missouri knife law, automatics and concealed carry

To quote TJSafari, "Yes under the new law you may carry an automatic knife as long as it is not in violation of any federal laws. For instance if you carry an automatic into a federal building where it is restricted then you would be in violation of federal law AS WELL AS the new STATE law.

It is important to note that a city or town could potentially prohibit certain knives and this is why Knife Rights stresses that we must have knife preemption laws in all 50 states to prevent cities from passing such laws, but we have to do it one step at a time. This is a huge first step in Missouri."

You can also purchase one online and have it mailed to you here in Missouri. Or buy one locally, but note that not all dealers know the laws.
Most online dealers won't sell to anyone that isn't military or leo or they require credentials before considering an auto knife sale.

That has not been my experience. And should not be true since they are legal in Missouri for an individual to own. I have purchased online with no questions.

Ok. I guess the only thing to do is try. Thanks for the help. I'll make sure to post any experiences I have trying to purchase one.

You would be correct. By the letter of the law, it's illegal for any out of state seller to sell an auto to you. As a matter of fact even if they ask for LEO or military creds its still illegal due to how the federal statute is phrase (that is, they can only be sold within the confines of a military contract).

The big giant however is, it's only illegal for the seller. You're fine, no matter what you do.

With that said, there are many online sellers willing to illegally sell out of state to anyone with the money. Some are even makers on this forum. They just get away with it because the feds just don't freakin' care. They know it's a dumb law and it's nearly impossible to enforce because mail is private. Even if they do get caught, it's just a monetary fine.

This whole situation makes me nervous. I would really like an auto knife. Not so much to carry it but to collect it. There are no local shops near me that I can buy one at...that I know of. I just don't want to do something completely innocent and end up getting in trouble or getting someone else in trouble too.

Have you ever been to a local Gun or Knife show? Last weekend in Springfield, MO there were auto knives available at many tables.

 on the knife shows. Great way to find all sorts of stuff and the fed laws don't apply because it's a transaction in the same state.

I'm in MO and ordered an auto knife recently without any issues. I'm not LEO. As I understand it it's currently legal in MO carry and possess an auto under 4".

So, I ended up with the Benchmade Adamas automatic which comes under 4", and I understand is legal to carry. I have a CCW in MO. Please let me know if I'm wrong as I don't understand how I could violate the federal law. - but the reason I'm resurrecting this old thread is to ask about concealed fixed blades. There's a lot of talk about the newer laws concerning autos but what about fixed?
