Mnandi: My latest Obsession

A very good BF friend of mine knows how obsessed I am with Damascus and decided to make me very happy, I'll always owe him for that. Bertie Rietveld out of South Africa is the only one that makes snakeskin and the top knife in the picture is called dragon skin.

that's an awesome collection, how in the world did you come across the bertie rietfeld b&w? it's always interesting to see if people get lucky on the secondary market, or get lucky at shows, or what not. Is the snakeskin damascus also devin thomas?

wow, always love learning new stuff from you guys, and that top knife is amazing. I'll have to look up some info on this bertie and see what his damascus is all about( still don't know much about damascus) :)

Awesome, what are the inlays on the second down from the top and the bottom one, Thanks
The 2nd one is Camel Thorn and the bottom is Lignum Vitae. I love your collection and your Camel Thorn looks great too. Is it as smooth as it looks in the pic?

WOW it's interesting to see how different each piece is from the same wood. Is Camel Thorn not smooth? This one is smooth, Yes.

The other one is Bocote. I really liked it because it was a lot darker than most Bocote I've seen.

The dark grain is smooth but the lighter grain has a different/slightly rougher texture. I'll try and take a side shot of it later today.

Here are 2 more pics. The first is the knife as seen in the group pic, the second after a wipe down with some lemon oil (I use the same stuff on my traditional knives). It darkened up the wood but you can still see how it was cut. Not sure if it matters but this knife was made in 2005.
