Mnandi: My latest Obsession

Will do. Found couple new online.
How well does the Damascus blade hold up compared to the standard? I'd be afraid to use it.

I use also damascus blades without problems.
In theory should be better than normal blades.
Inox damascus can be use with little care.
Be aware of carbon based damascus they need more care.

BTW my Mnandi is with normal Blade but Who never knows in the future...

I recommend you watch the Youtube video "Using Damascus?", in which he tests Chris Reeve knives with SS damascus blades. They are very tough. I am using a carbon damascus knife (not CRK) and it does fine. You just have to keep those oiled. But Chris primarily uses SS so no worries.

And if you wear down the contrast by repeated scrubbing, you can send it to CRK's for a spa treatment.

To those who have noticed the polished portion of the Damascus where the detent ball rides on....what are your thoughts? I'm sorta indifferent to it at the moment. I actually like the gritty feel when opening a Damascus blade.

A slight preference for the polished since I prefer the "smoother" feel. Ultimately I'm fine with either.

For me the grit is preferred. No specific reason why except that I felt the grit on the first damascus Mnandi I opened, so I consider it the standard.

Folks... This is my 4th try at a Mnandi. In have had (2) in Bocote and (1) in walnut. I recently picked this Cocobolo one up as part of a trade and it is quite unique. No, not because of the wood or grain. Take a look at the pics and see if you can spot the differences between this one and a factory one!

Oldies but never hard on the eye.

PS: I like the gritty feel of damascus blade opening, but I have been known to squirt a drop of Nano oil near the tang/pivot to facilitate easy opening.

She arrived today and I couldn't be happier ..... well, not quite. I guess I "could" be happier if the front and rear inlays were reversed. Really like the rear inlay on this one.
