Well, if this quote from Blade is correct, then the Mnandi should be roughly 3 5/8" closed. I don't know if that is correct or not, but that's what was in Blade. I have also heard that the Mnandi is between the Umfaan and Small Sebenza in size. Slimmer than a Small Sebenza, but longer than an Umfaan.

tallpaul, has posted in the thread about flat ground CRK folders that he has some pictures of the Mnandi, Umfaan, and Small Sebenza together. Hopefully he will be able to post them soon.

I am sorry the pictures are bad but I will e-mail them to someone who will post them... I do not think I am spending for photopoint... and haven't fixed the scanner yet

Here's tallpaul's photo. It shows the relative size of a Mnandi as compared to an Umfaan and Small Sebenza with wood inlay.

The small Sebenza isn't showing up very well.

It's a bit longer than a small but narrow like an Umfaan?

I'm feeling that funny feeling...

Clipside?

Remember this was a preproduction prototype... from what I understand the size and shape is to be the same or very close but there was the clip to be added... size wise I was really impressed even though I did not want to be
smile.gif
... it seemed very usable as a "gents" knife or an EDC... Did I say I liked it ?

, It is in between the umfaan and small in size though the picture does not show it well... At least that what I remember from when I had it here... And did I mention it was REALLY hard to send back...

as far as the pictures well... see what happens when ya' leave those disposables ride in the sun for a week or so on the dash...

Clip,,,??? PLEASE NO CLIP !!!!

This is a fine design for gents knife, why mess it up with clip????

NO CLIP,,,NO CLIP,,,NO CLIP,,,NO CLIP,,,PLEASE.

Regards,
FK

I agree with FK. While I am mainly a clip man, this is going to be intended as my dress carry and I would prefer to have it clipless. Now, if the clip could be removed with absolutely no trace whatsoever, that's a whole different ballgame and count me in.

Clip and no clip - it's all been taken care of. The clip is one that can be placed on either side of the knife (on either front or back of the knife, opposite the pivot!) and it can be removed with out it affecting the look of the knife at all. We tried to listen to everything you asked for!!

We have just received some pictures from our photographer - right now he only has transparancies and they are being used for a poster that we are having made for the Blade Show - as soon as he lets us have prints, I'll get them posted here. Yes, I know that digital camera is getting more of a priority!

Sounding better all the time! Thanks for taking the time for the update, Anne. Looking forward to seeing the pics when they are up.

I needed to add a couple of comments - meant to do it ages ago!

I made an error with the spelling of ziricote - it should be ziricote not ziracote and I had previously posted. Since Paul had asked some information about the wood, here goes:

Ziricote is found in South America (from Mexico to Argentina) and is one of a number of exotic hardwoods that resembles rosewood, but is not related. Ziricote's distinctive coloration is alternating black and dark gray graining. The tree is small, with resulting lumber being short and relatively narrow. The graining provides attractive patterns, either plain or quartered. Weight is about 34 pounds per cubic foot.

And I also needed to comment on the post that Paul made a while back on the piece in Knives Illustrated. They did get things a bit backwards so don't pay too much heed to that! To refresh memories, the inaccuracies are: Mnandi means "nice" or "pleasant", it is pronounced "mmm-NUN-dee" and the knife will retail at $305. The wood inlay, while not entirely new to us, is a new concept in terms of matching back and front, and being standard on a knife rather than a special edition.

I hope this clears things up ..... and we are working furiously on getting Mnandis made!!

Anne

Thanks for the information Anne. I knew when I got on the CRK forum that you had been here, because so many threads had been added to. I can't even describe how excited I am about the Mnandi!

Met a fellow last weekend who had picked up a mnandi at the solvang show, very nice! Very easy to open with either hand. While I like clips on my knives the one on this knife reminded me of something you might see on a fancy pen. To me it seemed a little out of character for the knife. Is this clip design final or might there be an option for something simpler.

I was at the Solvang show. I saw the prototypes. I thought that they were OK. They were $500.00! Chris sold every one. They are nice, a real gentlemans folder. Very nice work but that is par for course when you get a CRK product. To me, for $305.00 it is well worth it. But Anne, have you no mercy? I keep telling myself, I don't need another knife, I don't need another knife, I don't need another knife. Well maybe someday I will believe it. The mnandi would be perfect for me at work and I did just get a tax refund. It is very sheeple friendly and CRK has always treated me very well.... Should I fight it or just give in? But my small wood inlay is so nice and does its job quite well. But... the wood inlay can't be replaced. Where is KA when I need it? (Knifeoholics Anonymous or better yet CRKA, Chris Reeve Knifeoholics Anonymous) Anyone interested?

No, we probably don't have any mercy - but then we have to eat too

It is interesting to read the comment from Bandaidman about the clip - that is exactly what Chris had in mind when he designed it that way - similar to the clip on a high end pen. This means that you can wear the knife safely in a shirt pocket, or, as Chris is trying out at the moment, clipped to the front of his shirt, kind of like a tie-clip (except he hasn't worn a tie in 10 years!!)
