MOABOLO - CBT & FFG Comparison

Both very cool knives. I just don't really get the appeal of CBT. There's no other way to describe it than a shortcut in the production process. I've never used one, but it can't help in cutting or piercing and must at least make slicing more difficult if not also chopping. I understand many Bussekin are not made to be thin slicing knives, but it's just so glaring.

While I haven't done scientific testing to see if the claim that CBT makes the blade stronger --- if that's true --- then I'd say it's very functional for making the knife tougher. It also has an aesthetic appeal for many people.

Well I'd imagine it makes it stronger because it leaves more metal unground. For me, I'd much rather have the improved cutting/chopping performance of a flat or saber grind over the strength increase of the CBT (my flat ground Bussekin have been plenty thick and plenty strong, and I imagine (but don't know, because I haven't tested it) that the increase in strength is less relatively than the decrease in cutting). Again, I haven't had or tested one, but just going by knowledge of knife grinds and use these are my impressions.

I don't blame anyone for being drawn to the aesthetics of CBT, it's good to have different preferences in the market. I just personally find them highly unappealing.

I absolutely LOVE the CBT, we all have different tastes, and consequently Busse offers different Models with or without CBT-In my opinion there is probably very little difference in performance with or without CBT besides the aesthetic appeal, that CBT just makes them more rare and appealing, I am not aware of another Manufacturer who makes them, but I could be wrong. If a massive showdown occurs between two Moabolo's and the FFG wins, great congratulations to all who own one-Me I still want the CBT Version-The CGFBM was the first Busse I fell in love with-Cheers

I don't really think the performance is going going to vary. It's a giant infi chopper, we can all agree it's going to destroy everything CBT or not.

Long live Jerry

I believe these will only increase in Value over time-The posted price now reads $1627 Regular Price (the special SALE Price listed them at $1397 with a $30 upgrade to G10 Handles, However I do wonder why the Busse Collector Homepage list them for $1397, since this was a sale item. A NMSFNO that was produced in $2008 cost $597-these now sell for $800 and above on the forum-Things that make you go Hmmmmm
Funny the regular base price to buy one when they came out was $1397, so.... That means that if I want to sell my INFI WTF I have to sell it for the early bird price.....not what the slow pokes payed

There was a hog special price of $1197 for the first offering Moabolo, regular price for it was $1397.

Wasn't it originally claimed to also decrease friction while cutting and chopping? I never understood that claim.

To be honest with you, I doubt CBT does really nothing to enhance the performance of the Blade-If it did why wouldn't they use it on all there Blades? It does however add a flair that no other Manufacture offers-And yes I love me some CBT

I'm kind of surprised that Rob said the CBT MOBOLO is heavier...
I would expect the CBT to be lighter, since they're basically a bunch of small fullers, and they should reduce the weight while keeping the strength of the blade.

The reason why it's heavier is because it is essentially a flat saber vs FFG ---- also the CBT version is slightly thicker.

Yours might be one of the chunkier of the bunch . . . I think it was fairly unanimous that the CBT one was heavier also.

If you were to full flat grind a cbt Moabolo it would look like the ffg correct? So the bumps of the bevel are the extra weight right? Ugh, where is JERRY???

For the most part I believe. My cbt coated version is .368" approx. If you ground the cbt's off, it might end up skinnier than the FFG one. All the threads I've read say the FFG is lighter,,,

I honestly do not know-this is what Rob Stanley Posted on the Initial Post-He does have both-Cheers
Here are a couple of pics of the CBT and Full Flat Grind versions of the awesome MOABOLO.

The FFG is a whisker longer than the CBT version, and obviously the grinds are significantly different. The CBT appears to be a hair thicker than the FFG too and is noticeably heavier.
