MOABOLO - CBT & FFG Comparison

It probably could have been a hair lighter. If you look real close at the first pic, the last couple cbt's going towards the spine (darker color) are pretty steep climbing to the flat. Not sure why that is?

Glad you boys aren't having any trouble figuring out that a slightly thicker saber grind blank obviously can not physically be lighter than a slightly thinner full flat grind blank of the same shaped steel... :p And yes, CBT's also protrude from the underlying flat grind in the rough to add weight. ;)

If I recall correct the CBT is near 38-40 oz while the FFG is 33-35 oz depending on handles and variations of work done by hand. Mine at 32.3 is probably the lightest one so far as I hoped it would be.

The theory of the CBT is to have the same rigidity as a blade of equal thickness, but with less weight. A steel bar and an I-beam of the same external dimensions have the same restistance to bending, but the I-beam is lighter.

So if you grind two knife blanks with identical geometry, and tehn carve CBT into one, that one wil weigh less, but still have the strength of the full thickness version. In addition, the CBT version will hav eless surface area in contct with wood while splitting, so it will ahve less friction.

this was hard to type with two fingers and a lot of bourbon...

Thanks for the pics Rob!! Great knives!! I love the look on your FFG.:)

Ok, so today I spent several hours distressing 5 alder doors. I can't for the life of me understand what makes people want to spent over 3 grand on doors, then pay me to beat and cut them senseless. In preparation for this job I collected my favorite distressing tools, 5 in 1, orbital sander, hardwood flooring scraper, razor blade, ball peen hammer. Then it hit me.....the doors need to be beaten and cut..... What do I have that beats and cuts like it's addicted to it? MOABOLO

SO HERE YOU GO.... MOABOLO AND INFI IN "DISTRESSING MY DOOR"

Dear god --- that MOABOLO looks so damn good. Nice door distressing ;)

Thanks you two, seems to be the cheaper option to snag some micarta grips,,, :)

I would check with AzTimT. He had snakeskin micarta put on his and they had to remove some material from the tang near the top of the grip. It's do able, just might be a pain
