Mobil 1

I use it, it seems a lot smoother than regular oil. I keep mine in a skoal can on my bench, pop the top when I'm sanding and use my nose-digger to apply.

I never tried oil Frank, I use Windex. I may have to give that a try if it's better. But it must be messy.
I don't like messy. ;)

Patrice, I wouldn't use the oil on windows. I have yet to find anything that you use to make knives non messy. Never tried Mobil One but have used several different oils and other liquids over the years. I don't think one is any better than the others. I think the Mobil One has more of a placebo effect which isn't all bad.

Raymond, I wish you would have posted earlier. That stuff streaks something fierce on windows.:(

Of course non-messy is not possible but from looking at shops, it varies from clean to "OMG, did something blew up in here". ;)

Now I know what happened to my shop........

Mine is definitely in the latter category. :o

Some people swear by WD-40, some prefer Windex, I'm happy with Mobil 1, RemOil makes sense... there's a point (heh) where we're just splitting hairs (ho ho).

I was in fact seeing if there is a better fluid that is now being used. I'm still with the Mobile 1 I have tried other fluids. Perhaps it is a placebo effect but it still seems the most helpful to me. Frank

I have found that Mobil 1, or maybe any oil would work well to create a slurry of suspended sandpaper grit and metal dust. Once the slurry is created, the friction action acts like polishing compound. I would think that windex or similar fluid would allow the slurry to drain off of the blade easier.

I do know that Mobil 1 and 220 grit makes a good satin look to carbon blades.

That is my thoughts as well. I'm very happy with the way Mobil1 works, but my mind is always open to anything that works better.

I find that if I really want the paper to cut windex works better but when I want to get a nice finish Mobil 1 or Rem-oil works better.

I will try the windex again. Maybe it will have a placebo effect and make me feel it is a better fluid to use than the Mobil 1. Frank

the stuff I'm using is 5w30, when this runs out i'm gonna try there 0-20w stuff.

Last night I had some sanding to do and I tried rem oil and wd-40 both worked very good, this was with 320 emery cloth, it was easier to handle and apply than the mobil and end result was very similar .
