Do all lathes look that much alike? I would swear i have worked on that exact one.

Pretty much. They all have about the same controls.

When you say "boiled" do you mean that you used boiled linseed oil? If not im cornfused. I admit im kinda a newb on the hawk forum...but..please advise...
