Model 1 Blade Blanks

Hi - I'm interested in one but unsure which steel to buy. For now I'll say I'll take an L6. But based upon your experience in making & heat-treating these blades out of these steels, what is your evaluation of the pros/cons of each for this particular blade? Also, are these differentially heat-treated? Thanks!

Can I get a pic of the blank itself. My skill is meager at best but I would love to see the tang. Or if its too much trouble...just a description of the tang.
Thanks,
T

I'd really like to see a pic of the naked tang, too, if possible. I'm interested in an L6, but I don't know if my skill is up to what's under the handle in those photos...

I'm still working on the model 2 blank you sent me, and I think I'd be nuts to pass this up, but I have that bit of doubt. Any chance for a snapshot?

Matt,i will take one preferably w2,but i would like to see a picture first
Also, can these blades be fitted with scales and no guard?

Until Matt responds, I just took a look his website and it has plenty of pics of how the knives are made, to get an idea of the tang.

Thanks guys!

All blades are differentially hardened, so they will have a pretty active hardening line.

The tangs are substantial. They're about .85" in width, 4.75" in length, rectangular, with a radiused butt.

Scales can be fairly easily attached with a simple mortise.

I didn't get a chance to hit the shop last night, so I'll take some pics today.

I'm somewhat surprised by the response; I didn't think anyone would be interested.

If I can get 10 or so interested parties I'd like to do a small run of these. A good friend of mine recently lost his job; the company was bought out and moved out of state. I know he would appreciate some work, so I'm sure he could help me out for a few days. I can jockey my schedule for some shop time this week too. I'll split the money with him and apply the second half to a run of 3V choppers.

Thanks again gents!

Matt

I'll take a L6, please- sending a PM.

The pics on your site (under "construction," if anyone else goes) were excellent; dunno why I didn't look there first.

I'll take two W2 blanks. I would need them shipped to Jack ONeill (knifemaker here on BF). Please choose two that are a near perfect match, as I plan to have a matching set of fighters made.

Let me know when they are ready, so I can send paypal payment and shipping info. Jack is already drooling over what wood we should use;)

Good luck to your friend finding new work. Hopefully, a few more guys jump on the bandwagon.

Guess I better quit shaking .:D

Mr. Roberts,

I would be interested in 2 W2 blanks if you have any left. I would also be interested in purchasing blanks from the short run that you mentioned.
Please let me know!

Thank you,
Chris
