Modern Alternative to the 110?

Personally, I tried to get into Spyderco, and then Benchmade before I fell in love with the 110/112 lines. I have the full size Crooked River, and handled the mini. As much as I like BM and own around 15 of them, none of them give me the feeling in hand of that thick, neutral handled 110.

The closest knife in my collection would be my BM 710, but I prefer the thicker handle size of the 110. IMO, if you want a 110 with more modern materials, check out C&C and SK Blades. Personally, my new most carried knife is a 110 LT which I Dremeled in finger grooves to match my hand. Also, the regular brass versions are easy to modify too. I modified the FG's on a stock 110, and am planning on doing a full FG mod on a plain 112 and 112 LT in the near future.

Recon 1. No wood but it’s modern. Backlock far superior. Significant weight reduction. Disassembles easily for routine maintenance. Goes back together tight and centered every time. Not American made but hey we’re winning anyhow.

Thinking "inside the box". I just did a 'buck 110' search over at BladeHQ:

How about one of the new automatic 110s? The higher end one has a more modern look and S30V. Or bone handled?

Or a Puma? They make some traditional lockbacks.

Lastly, I really like the 500 series of Bucks: Squire, Prince and Knight. Just pick the one with the size you like. They have a similar style to the 110, but not as big. Very slim, but they still have that solid, heavy feel. Even more balanced than the 110 and 112.

I have a Knight, and while I hardly ever carry it (I prefer SAKs for pocket carry) I sure do like it when I DO carry it.

It's not everyones cup of tea, but the cold steel broken skull is about the same dimensionally. Though it's much thinner and lighter. Can still be had in cts-xhp for a good price. I dislike the name, but it carries very well and will likely never develop play.

The fact that it is made in China may put it off to some, but I like the AG Russell Gun
Stock lock back, I have the large and medium one. With his passing, maybe a way to remember him by getting one of the folders from his company. Sturdy lock, decent steel and quite robust.

I second that. I also have the A.G. Russell Gunstock Lockback (both sizes) and they are some of the best users in my collection. Modern features include the recurve blade and notches on either side that allow one handed opening. Other than that, very traditional.
RIP Mr. Russell

Ontario Hossom Retribution 1 will eat a Buck 110 for lunch. And it looks better too and is higher quality with better fit and finish. Unfortunately, it’s out of production. N690co steel blade with very thick titanium liners and very thick micarta handle. I think it weighs over 10 ounces.
