I love the way that Big Bear looks, I just “rediscovered” my Busse TGULB and my Teräväs. Been using them exclusively.Hey Brother, don't know how I missed this post.
To answer your question, I really like it. At first, the design looked a little bit "different"(?) to me. Beyond that, Todd uses a lot of O1 as far as I can tell. I don't hate O1, but I'm not necessarily in love with it either...mainly because you can sit and actually watch it rust. However, the "etch" that Todd put on the Big Bear is outstanding and goes a long way to making the knife less of a "high maintenance girlfriend" like a lot of O1 knives.
In my time with it, the Big Bear has performed flawlessly. Like many of your TOPS, it's a tank of a knife but handles surprisingly light on its feet. (*as a Bowie should) It wasn't exactly cheap. However, it has definitely exceeded my expectations and is well worth the expense in my humble opinion. I certainly wouldn't mind having a duplicate.

Looks like a hefty user, though. As a small time Dawson collector, I encourage you to put it through its paces.View attachment 2174887
Great choice! I love mine, I’m reluctant to use mine, because it was a birthday gift from my mother.
It just sits in my drawer right now lol. My TGULB has seen the most use as of right now and my Skrama and Jaakaripuukos aren’t too far behind. I will say that the Big Bear is a wonderful one tool option.Looks like a hefty user, though. As a small time Dawson collector, I encourage you to put it through its paces.

I can understand not wanting to use a sentimental gift but I can certainly guarantee you that hunk of steel will be around long after we are gone. That is unless a course someone melts it down. Take that thing out and enjoy it. Cut a steak. Trim a tree. Whatever makes you happy.View attachment 2174887

I’m a big time fixed blade guy, aside from a couple of decent folders, 75% of my collection falls into the heavy duty hard use 5-8” range out of 40+ knives. I eventually will use it, I have so many others that I’ve been using that I just haven’t gotten around to it yet.I can understand not wanting to use a sentimental gift but I can certainly guarantee you that hunk of steel will be around long after we are gone. I will admit I do not use my BM43 for nothing anymore. A titanium handle balisong is just too stupid expensive nowadays. I can’t believe people pay $300 and up for slab constructed balisongs. That is just my opinion.
You have a great knife. I think I will cut up some chicken for the grill tomorrow with my BM43 in your honor. I hope I don’t get drunk and burn the chicken.![]()
I like those. Where did you get them? This is my offering for today on this topic.. The one on the left is my interpetition of the James A Keating Crossada with a spear point while the two featured on the right are the original Crossada with the bowie point.. the holes by the guard are for attaching quillions for additional protection and the disarming of the attacking bowie when it gets caught in the spaces of the guard.. There is also a spanish notch for additional blade control against an attacker's blade
