I wish I had kept a lot of blades which I liked when I got them but had no idea that some day I would look back and think they were some of the best.
What are some your favorite, beefy, 3-4 inch or more blades (folders) from these 3 decades?

One of the folders I wish I had kept is the SOG Tomcat from the 80's.

I had an original Al Mar SERE I bought out of a catalog a long time ago. Back when there were made with the tiger stripe G10. I sold it to a friend to buy a...... I'm embarrassed to say this..... Cold Steel tanto fixed blade out of the same catalog. I have no idea why other than I thought the tanto fixed blade was "cool looking". Dumb teenager I was.

Buck 110. Still have the first one I bought back in the mid 70's.

Schrade Old Timer 125OT. Carbon steel. That thing will take an edge that would shave a floating mouse. Got it used in the mid 70's, too...and I still have it.

I love the Schrade LB7.
I also love eBay where I picked up these 4, NIB for $150 last year.

Al Mar Eagle. Al Mars are the sharpest out-of-the-box knives I own.

I can't forget the classic Buck 110 I bought in 1989 or 90.

Is the Buck 110 something you can open fairly quickly with one hand, or is that not possible with most lockbacks?

I remember seeing a site maybe a week ago that actually had oldschool lockback tomcat for sale.

If you pinch the blade while the knife is held tip up it's easy to snap it open with a quick outward movement and then abrupt stop.

Can you be a real knife person and not have owned a Buck 110 at some point?:D

The answer is yes:) Back in college in the 90s I worked part time at a police station so I going with the Endura. Every cop at the PD had one and when you met other cops from other PDs, they had one too. Even the dispatchers had one. It was everywhere in the mid to late 90s. I have an all stainless AUS6 Seki City Endura combo blade that I've had for at least 10 years now. Iconic design.

AFCK. First edc I ever owned. I got it in my mid-teens, right after it came out & was profiled in Tactical Knives (if I remember correctly). Does that date me a bit?

It's ok to be dated :) I remember watching on TV when the first Moon landing was an amazing thing.

I remember the AFCK article going on about all the exotic materials. ATS-34 was the supersteel of the moment with a whopping 1% carbon content. The scales were a high-tech material called G10 with some 5-digit number somehow associated with it's rated strength. I waffled between a Tuffram Spyderco Police & a Benchmade Spike until that article twisted my arm. All these years later & I'm counting the weeks until the Knifeworks AFCK sprint hits my doorstep.

I was thinking about this subject the other day. I still love my old school lock back folders.
