Modern Day Robinson Crusoe!

It is doable for someone with a bit of experience, training and preparation. Natives have been doing it around Tonga for thousands of years. Making fire with bow drill, hand drill, fire plow, or fire saw or thong is not that hard to do. There are some shelter caves there (Bligh and his crew used one). Palm fiber for cordage, fresh water available, lizards being the biggest land predators (bait?), cooking in a coconut shell or by wrapping in leaves on coals (Luau anyone?), plenty of Mahi Mahi and then there is the kava. No, the island seems to be resource rich and help is not far away if he needs evacuation. A group of Peace Corps volunteers became stranded there a few years back by bad weather and they all survived. They were picked up by a boat in short order.

It will be interesting to see what his list of supplies does include though. I am pretty sure this brief list was given to increase the drama factor.
