Modern Traditionals

Modern traditional, or “moditional” as I like to call it, is simply a traditional styled pocket knife with modern materials. I love traditional knives. I own Case, Queen, GEC and others. I also own custom traditionals. Sure, the purists may not prefer moditionals but many people like them, including me. And I also believe the topic is appropriate for both general & traditional forums. Have a great weekend!

...A lot of people who enjoy both do like these knives ( the many many traditionalists like me don't)
Ahhh, try one and you might like it. The one thing that stops me from buying many of the modern slip joints or ones with modern features is cost. I am pretty well entrenched at the moment as to what I routinely carry and simply buying every knife that catches my eye is not happening any more. They likely wouldn't get used anyway, so why bother?

There is a un-defined limit to just how many impulse knives I am willing to acquire.

Depends on what you think is expensive. I think it's a pretty great value considering how expensive custom lights get. It was around $200: Mechforce Mechtorch
With flashlights of any kind, I am simply not in the same league as I get plenty of very functional use out of mostly sub-$50 flashlights. Years ago, just buying a maglite was a huge financial step that I allowed myself. Things in that price range have come easier since. My most expensive one is a NiteCore rechargeable flashlight these days and I got it during the 2019 Blade Show.

The best value LED flashlight that I own was sold by Lowes a few years ago and I have about 5 of them. When they were discontinued, I got a couple of them for about $10 each. They are C sized (~200 lumens) and I am not apt to loose them when I use them in cramped or dark places like under houses or in attics. I normally don't think in terms of value with flashlights.

Some of them have a nice looking clip point blade but that's all I like about them.
None of the materials are for me either, I only do old school blade steels I can sharpen and maintain in no time.

I like Zieba's Heritage slipjoint https://www.knifecenter.com/item/ZB...90-two-tone-blade-marble-carbon-fiber-handles

I've got one. It's reasonable, well made, M390 at 61RC, has a spring that fits into the tang to give a half stop and very tight open fit. Not too hard to close and good looking "Don't buy no ugly knife." Has pretty blue Ti liners and pivot and mine came with a skull bead. I dropped it point down on the concrete patio doing BBQ. Point didn't break and I could get it bak in shape with some work with the Sharpmaker diamond rods.
