mokume

Just to clarify. I get some say 1/8 nickel silver sheet. Cut it and some copper and brass off about the same thickness (already have these) up in about 2" squares scour clean them really well (and wipe with alcohol?) and stack them up, lets say 12 sheets for 1 1/2". Wrap them in stainless foil with a bit of charcoal and place between a clamp assy. made of some 2 heavy plates and bolted on the corners and suck it up tight. place in forge or HT oven take it up to about 2000F ??? for several hours ?? I should then have a billet that needs the edges cleaned up before I really work it.

Delbert, Yes silver mokume and other mixes can be hot hard. I was giving advise to a first timer, so I was recommending to error on the safer side.

SterlingHammer - Sterling and fine silver work about the same. Fine has a higher melting point and also allows a more predictable eutectic point.
