This is my first post to this form and hope that I am not asking a knuckle head question. I want a Chopper / Lobber beefy knife that I can strap to my leg take can take with me hunting, camping, hiking, the Appalachian Trails, the back hills of Kentucky (the area I know too well), as well as "to hell and back". Especially that last part. I want a big knife! Almost bought a short sword, a 21" blade 9260 Katana for the job. Maybe a little "too big".

Have enjoyed my TOPS knives, Cold Steel's, Gerber's, and others, but am wanting to take it up to the next level. What do you guys recommend for the ultimate combination of metal, smashing capability, durability, zombie killing, bone crushing 8-10+ inch blade for a fair price?

All seriousness aside, I have been saving my pennies and have an OK amount saved back to spend on a knife ($400 - $600 +). Real big firearms guy and am feel comfortable there, but feel that I am lacking in a good big monster leg knife. Have been researching the best metal / durability combination and have reached a stopping point in knowledge and experience. 1060, 1095, 5160, 9260, T10, 30v, not sure where to go from here.

The requirements for this knife will be:
Cut down small trees
Build emergency shelters
Dig holes
Chop meat / bone
8 - 10" minimum blade length
and yes, repel Zombies attacks (well, when I run out of ammo)

Can you guys guide me in the right direction? Always been a real big fan of the old school Busse Battle Mistress, but for what ever reason never purchased one. I like the looks of the Relentless M1A and M4X Punisher. I would love this to be my absolute, no holes barred, go to knife. The last one that I will ever need to by (at least that is what I am going to tell my wife). Currently my go's are split between Tops Steel Eagle and an old school 1095 Cold Steel Gurkha.

I look forward to hearing from you guys and browsing through the Exchange, Thanks in advance!

BK9 is a good choice as well, if you want to save money. Also Himalayan Imports khuks if you like those.

Check with Scott Gossman. When I think of indestructable big knives I think of Scott first. After that I think of the larger Randalls but most people don't take advantage of their potential.

You got sone great recommendations, the dog father is great, not extremely heavy, the nmfbm by busse is awesome, the ferhman extreme justice is fantastic, and my favorite is the junglas for price to quality value.

Good luck

Busse NMFBM

A mighty knife to be sure...but if looking for something that is a little lighter and easier on the belt and feels like the old (original) Busse straight handle Battle Mistress, then may I suggest you check out the Busse Bushwhacker Mistress (commonly referred to as the "BWM") before making your decision. It's a great 10" blade chopper with a clip point and a handle that is similar to the old straight handle version. :)
