Monterey Bay Knives, love?

I just bought a hoodie that's made in the USA. $35 at Costco. Definitely better quality material, but twice the price of the other foreign made ones. It doesn't have a zipper, however. So better quality, but not as functional. Is this an allegory of the USA vs China made debate? I don't know. But I do know I've never seen a knife with a zipper.

Just using my china tech filled device to bash China on the internet that runs off the back of China tech.. #boycottmoralstandards
Also MBK has some nice knives 😁
And Chinese labor, too.

Personally I don't care for or respect people who don't respect labor.

Who’s got a Pinscher? I’ve been loving the EWC I picked up recently. They make a really nice knife and I love a Ray Laconico design. The Pinscher really looks nice as well.
Mine finally arrived after disappearing into a USPS black hole for 10 days. I like it - it feels like a fancy, flipper version of the PM2.

I had an old MBK timascus clip that I thought would look good on it, and it does. Unfortunately, they’d changed the sizing of the screw holes, so I had to mill 0.5mm off the diameter of the screw heads. Only a few minutes work, once I’d worked out a set up to do it.

I’d still like to get one of the ZDP ones with a fancy inlay, if they make more.

I've been thinking about getting a Minpin 2.0 but keep convincing myself not to for some reason.

They are, indeed, planning our demise, and I fully expect that my grandchildren will find suitable employment in a Chinese work camp with a million uighurs, but, with regard to Monterey Bay Knives, I was just thinking that it must be hard for a small-to-medium shop to manufacture production knives without outsourcing, either inside the U.S. or outside. Spyderco started by having their knives made in Japan. Lon Humphrey Knives are manufactured by Bark River.

Sorry, but the Chinese have no designs on America, as we have on their system of government, nor have they ever fought a war of aggression on our doorstep, as we have on theirs, slaughtering at least 2M people. It's way too easy, and popular, to jump on that bandwagon!

The truth is, the Americans have done nothing but attack innocent smaller countries since WWII. The truth is, the US HAS DONE EXACTLY THE SAME THING AS PUTIN and Russia are doing in Ukraine, several times in the last 75 years (Korea, Vietnam and Iraq, for examples, none of which ever did anything to us). We are arguably to most aggressive, dangerous terrorist state on the planet. That is the objective truth.

It is also true that China is aggressively authoritarian, but also highly successful in economic terms. China is, today, more highly industrialized than the US, which is why so many good knives are made there...

I feel your pain. It would be wonderful if we could separate the fine knife builders from the country which is planning our demise.
What makes you think China is "planning our demise?" I would say it's more like the other way around, about the only thing stopping us being China's great size and population, and recently its industrial strength, which is one reason China makes so many excellent knives.

About to find out, I’ve admired their designs for a long time because I love Laconico designs, so I finally pulled the trigger in a EWC.
I love Ray Laconico's designs also. Have 5-6 of 'em... The Kizer Geminis are my absolute favorites.

Unfortunately, this is a fine line to walk when discussing Chinese knives/production methods, especially with the CCP‘s hand in the pot. There has to be other nations who can handle production.

I sold my two MBK Laconico knives, purged all the remaining China knives from my collection quite a while back.

Think twice about blaming citizens or companies for the actions of their governments. What exactly has your government been up to lately?

If anyone wants to have a real conversation about any of this stuff, I'd invite you to the political forum where this kind of talk belongs.
