Monthlyknifeclub.com?

Anyone have any experience with this company? They advertise an "Onyx" package where they claim that you receive a $149 - $250 knife with a monthly $105 subscription.

(non supporting dealer link removed)

I'm curious as to what people have received or if anyone has even signed up for this. A $105 subscription to anything is pretty expensive...

Not even with your money. It is funny to see what people really get on YouTube reviews compared to what's described though. LOL :D

Getting a bunch of random, crappy knives sent to you just doesn't seem like the best way to learn about knives.

Heck, if that was the case you could just order one of them late night gajillion knife packages and become a knife genius!
I'd forgotten that show. It's fun watching the bloopers.

I wouldn't call it a scam, but it's still a pretty good way to waste your money. This business model is currently popular with watches, where there is LOTS of space in the retail profit margins for batch resellers like this to whittle down the price. Basically, these subscription companies buy from manufacturers/distributors already knowing how many watches they're going to sell (from the number of people subscribed). The prices are lower because they don't have to invest in inventory (Well, that and they're comparing their prices to MSRP, which are grossly inflated anyway). Maybe they're not even shipping the watches themselves.

Unfortunately, this means that 1.) they're not always picking great products because they don't have to curate a solid inventory like a good retail store; and 2.) customers can't choose what they get. These subscriptions are for people who like unwrapping gifts to themselves every month, not people who like knives/watches/whatever.
I wouldn't call it an outright Scam either. Just a crappy deal that will lead to disappointment.

Thanks! I've been a guest perusing this forum from time to time when shopping for knives. I appreciate the warm welcome and plan to stay. May even upgrade the membership.

Here's a quote from their FAQ
"What's your knives made of?
High quality materials such as surgical steel. Some of our higher end knives are made out titanium This really is a fantastic value for any knife collector."

I looked it over and a lot of mall ninja non-knife stuff is in their "boxes". A lot of stuff added as filler. Knives I wouldn't buy by choice. Sure to appeal to the novice.

According to some of the information on a handful of these type offerings if they do offer a decent selection of brand names ie Kershaw, CRKT, BM, Spyderco, Kizer, etc then I think it could be a true statement otherwise I do agree with you.

There's your bundle deal

It's totally a scam. Yeah, I'm calling it.

Wasn't this developed scheme by the brain trust at the secret facility with the panic room and underground forge owned that surfer fellow Jared guy? I actually forgot the name of his company that used to be Mantis. Lol. Oh yeah, Quartermaster.

Came to mention the watch thing, see that others have beat me to it. This is always bad in my experience, and I've never seen someone get a watch/knife/fragrance or whatever that I would have wanted to pay for. Now if there was something cheap that was useful with an abundance of inventory that needs purged... I'd be a sucker for a "zip tie bundle of the month club". Please don't start one. I hear it enough about knives.
