Mooremaker 5300

Those ironwood handles are beautiful, who did that work? I have a delrin handled trapper that could use new scales.

I have a couple of Moore Makers as part of my EDC for years now. The honey bone handle stockman is 3 7/8", and the stag stockman is 4 1/4".

What kind is that one with the heavy clip next to the birdseye one?

Interesting. The reason I was unsure is that I recently got a 5 blade sowbelly with a date of 1999. Cumberland said he got 12 in at the time and they all sold out fast, as they always do, and they take a long time to fill the orders when he reorders.

I was wondering if that meant they needed to be regularly produced, or if Moore Maker has a bunch stored somewhere and it just takes a long time to resupply, or if there are a lot of 1999 blades that are still being put into knives.

Anyway, I am confused.

There are several MM Queen made patterns that I have only seen marked with the 1999 stamp, even on examples of the patterns purchased in 2008-2009.

The ones that I am thinking of are the five blade serpentine "sowbelly", the three blade whittler and the four blade congreess.

I was told by someone (either MM or one of their dealers) that these particular patterns are very slow sellers for MM and that there was only one run of each manufactured in 1999. MM has been selling from the original 1999 srtock on these ever since.

10 year old knives there fellas. They only get better with age.

I've got the 3 7/8" Moore Maker (by Camillus) with round bolsters. It's been my EDC for the last four years, and will remain so for the next 30 if I don't loose it.

Nav,
I appreciate the comment. I can't remember what the focus of that grouping was. Might have been EDC's then. The pic is not recent.

The knife to the left of the birds eye is a 1940's camillus whittler. Good eye, one of my favorite carries, great blade.

Steve, here's some images as requested of the MM 5301, 3 7/8" Stockman. (Sorry, it was just approaching dusk and rainy out when I took 'em.)

All in all a nice knife. (Any apparent lines on the bone are reflections from the camera. There are no flaws or cracks.)

Scales are deeper colored on the mark side versus the pile side but other than that (and desperately needing to be sharpened) the knife is a keeper.
(The lighting makes the disparity in the color appear more dramatic than it really is.)

Nice one Elliot. Is that the one you returned or the new one? I really like the smooth yellow bone on these knives.Same thing only bigger.

This is a new knife purchased through one of our friendly online resources. (The other was a 2nd which was returned.)

I feel a lot better about it now that it's been put to the hones some.

It's a beauty. I almost think Queen puts a little extra into these knives for Moore, but I haven't handled enough Queens to know for sure. They sertainly shine the heck out of 'em, and the serial numbered ones have a shield on the pile side for engraving.
That Moose is looking very inviting also.

I've got that Moose...it's a nice one. Also have the Even End Trapper, Large Sodbuster and the largest stockman in addition to this latest. All are excellent knives.
