Mora 2000

Arrived the other day in a set with the axe. Both are keepers, axe for the pack and Mora 2000 for the kitchen. Will put the Nimravus back in the rotation. Was in the kitchen for a while but needs to get out more.

Anyone else out there that doesn't like kitchen knives in the kitchen?

Finally found some local Mora's in a farm equipment supplier. $8.95 for a red plastic handled carbon steel Ericksson. I bought two. One is in my tool box and I nipped off the finger guard on the other. I then melted/molded it smooth and it is now serving us as a sharp and handy paring knife. I used it tonight actually to slice open hot dog buns.

Plan on using the axe this weekend (my weekend=Monday and Tuesday). Looks like a quality piece, not too heavy. Will post what I think of it on Tuesday or Wednesday.

Thanks Bro

Likehike,

Someone a week or two ago posted a link to a place that has them in stock right now, but I can't remember where it was (and of course forgot to bookmark it). If you look back through the threads, you should be able to find it. I've got exams all day but will try to hunt for it later.

I just got this today. Really interesting blade!

that's a really great pic moodino. you have more we can see?

what does ragweedforge charge for a 2000? i know they are out of stock right now but just for comparison...$24 on that otehr site

Ragnar @ ragweedforge has been OOS on several items since Christmas and is slowly restocking.Take it as a sign of a successful business and client relationship. He may be a little more expensive on a few items, but charges a flat $5 S/H for everything you order but some of the larger Wetterling axes @ $10.His service is never short of superb. The 2000 has a rattail tang that extends just short of the buttcap. It tapers down from the hilt and probably tempered softer than the blade. You can see these features in Ragnar's many knife blades for sale. I know this firsthand after my 2000 was ruined in a fast moving California brushfire a few years ago.It was in a tackroom serving as my blade for horseback riding. There is a nice review and comparison with a Grohmann-Russell @ www.outdoor-magazine.com The 2000 was Ericssons' answer to the 'survival knife' market and obviously reflects it's lueko heritage. Most users will want to dress the edge with a marked improvement over an already decent cutter. It's an incredibly comfortable knife for carry and use, batons well and the unusual point profile gives you a very fine section for making feathersticks. The grip surface is very secure. Like most scandi knives it also gives a 'neutral' at worst image to authority figures and people with knife phobia. The sheath is at best 'servicable' but how many similarly knives come with anything better, if at all? You can buy aftermarket Kydex sheaths, Or simply sand down the one provided and cover in leather. It's a great knife. I'm buying another one when Ragnar gets more.

This is the one our photographer sent me. He was spitting fire about how difficult it was to light that strange blade. I guess he was in no mood to spend hours shooting various angles etc.

Can someone describe the edge angles to me? Does it get more obtuse towards the belly of the blade where the bevel looks shorter?

Had the axe out today and very pleased with it so far. Edge held up really good, chopped a 4" dia. log of some kind of hard wood. Plan on going back and getting some of this stuff. Had a really nice grain on the inside, the outside of the log is pretty wrotten and looks like its been laying for a long time. Thinking on using some for knife handles.

Anyway back to the axe. After cutting through the log the blade didn't show any signs of wear. Felt as sharp as it did before being used. When it came I touched it up and put a razor edge on it. Shaved hair too. I was looking for this edge to get mangled but it didn't. Some kind of cobalt steel I think. Another thing I was waiting for was the head to come loose. Its only about 5/16" thick and goes through the plastic handle. Didn't come loose today and I was hammering pretty hard with it. I don't think anyone could go wrong buying one of these.

I got mine yesterday--Smaller and Lighter than expected--but still happy.
Going to test it this weekend...
Will keep you posted--

Thanks again

Make sure to let us know what you think Bill. It was smaller and lighter than I expected as well. I have to many axes (is that even possible:confused: ) as it is........ I just wanted the Mora 2K and though "what the hell"! Interested to know how it performs.

I like it---Just need to go out and test it more fully.Did some chopping on targets in my garage.Very fast..and easy to control. Will post report next Monday

No. The bevels are constant, there's a "scallop" out of the blade near the tip, which makes it lighter. It's a nice knife, but I like a more slender tip personally.

I'm probably the only one on these forums that actually likes the sheath! :p
