Mora knives: I've seen the light

Saw hafway through the thickness of a length of wood at its midpoint. Strike one end of the length of wood against a rock with the cut DOWN. The piece of wood will usually split lengthways becasue the saw cut is a stress-riser.

Knowledge and experience.

(Remember, I advocate something stouter than a Mora, but fair is fair.)

The are no guarantees in life, but Darwin favors the prepared. To regard tools as the only preparation could lead one to die. Not a single recognized survival expert says otherwise.

Example: How does one safely strike a standing small tree with a chopping tool?

A false dicotomy: small or none/large or none. There is no such forced choice in the real world.

Of course, debating what that one knife would be is good fun. :)

Fun, that is, if one remains respectful.

LMAO :D

Great points Thomas but you are splitting hairs now like a pro, this thread morphed into a one blade choice.

For the record I will not saw down the length of any tree, my arms will hurt.

As for skill, my 6 year old chops down small trees regularly when we are out having fun, with a large blade I might add (albeit 2 handed). He is not strong enough to use a saw yet.

This will turn into a "If you had only one kid to take?" thread I can see it now.

Got to go for now I have a class to teach today.

I would dearly love to understand the love affair that some contributers have with the moro knives.

They look and feel like cheap junk to me.

Usable, good price, but "a knife of choice"?

Don't think so.

This thread is whatever the posters make of it. We have no Thread Police here, as I am sure you have noticed. :D

Then try my suggestion and saw half way through its "thickness."
(Maybe I should have said "width," but I sure didn't say "length.")
