Just took possession of a variety of Moras that I want to try out. Most of them are carbon steel, though I did pick up a couple of stainless blades. I plan to use them in a rotation for home kitchen duties and for outdoor excursions. After I've spent some time with each knife, I'll report back some impressions. In addition to the knives below, I also have a Miki on the way, and I'll add it to the rotation as well.

R to L with some initial impressions:
  • Eriksson 711 - Really beefy handle that fills the hand. With the non-slip grip and partial guard, this knife might do well at field dressing game.
  • 840 Clipper - A really ergonomical handle. I wish this one had a tang that rivaled the 510 or even the 711. Very comfortable.
  • 780 Craftsman Triflex - Another beefy handle that really fills the hand.
  • Eriksson 511 - Bought for my son. The guard does add an element of security but makes it harder to change grip on this knife.
  • Eriksson 510 - Nice and compact, but grip still fills my hand nicely.
  • Martiini 571 - Very similar to the 510 but a slightly shorter puukko-style blade. Will have to use alongside the 510 to get a sense of difference.

Took some individual pics that turned out pretty well and thought I'd share them...

Martiini 571. Very cool looking forged blade.

The popular 510.

Mora 511. Only one I've used so far. My son and I built a fire in the fire bowl tonight, and we used his knife to whittle a marshmallow stick. Lessons continued about safe knife handling. He is very proud of this knife and can't wait to take it camping.

Of the two stainless blades I bought, here's a hi-vis 760 I grabbed to put in a kayak dry bag.

And here's the Mora 6" fillet. I am a bit of a fillet knife junkie, and this one looks well made. Very flexible and has the great ergo grip that comes on the Clipper model. Look forward to using this one on some trout.

Finally, here's the oft-posted picture that shows the tang length of some of these blades.

Great - look forward for the reviews.
How well do the sheaths hold the knife?
Lengths of blade, overall lenght.

I'll include that kind of info. Thanks for the suggestion on sheaths.

I loves my 711 and the 780 is rapidly growing on me.

You must have big hands. And you know what they say about guys with big hands...

... they wear big gloves. :p

I like all of the moras. They are the best bang for the buck, in my opinion. I look forward to impressions after use.

That little Martini looks great. The blade reminds me of my Brusletto carving knife.

Love my Moras!

I bought the stainless version of the 511 for my 6 year old nephew, he thinks its great. I'm a big fan of the 711 and the 510. If you like the clipper, you might want to look into an all-around. It's the same grip with the longer tang of the 711 or 510, but its only available in stainless.

Have a good one!

If you don't have big hands, the 911 is very similar to the 711 and very comfortable, that and the 510 (a 511 w/out the guard) are my 2 favorite models.

Is the blade on the 780 craftsman a little wider or is it just the way it looks in the pictures?

I have tried a few Moras over the years, they have all been good. I prefer the 840 clipper. Love the handle and it holds a wicked edge. Plenty of value for the money.

Got in a Mora Miki today. Bigger than I thought, but a nice flat, textured grip.

Took a new group shot without and with sheaths.

Finally, while I'm sharing, here's the knife I used to split the wood for the picture. :p

Mora knives are ok, but they are not the best knives out there. Inexpensive yes, but I can think of a number of other knives that I would prefer to have with me.
I can afford better, and I buy better.

I do have one stuck inside my BOB though. ;)
